Hi All,

Can I sense check please between the MSI GTX 970 Gaming or the GigabyteGTX970 G1 edition?

Both seem to get really good reviews and to be honest the cooling is almost irrelevant to me as I'll be water cooling them.

So I guess I'm after which is the best overclocker?

I've checked with EK waterblocks and a block for the MSI is available now, but the block for the Gigabyte is still in testing, so may be a couple of weeks before its available..

Today the MSI is a really good deal, but I'd rather pay the extra for the Gigabyte if there is an advantage.... For instance I've read a couple of reviews saying the mSI suffers from coil whine....

Thanks for any advice!

One thing to also consider is warranty and Gigabyte have UK based RMA and are rated highly in this respect.

Having dealt with Msi's warranty service I cannot fault it. Sent it to ocuk and they did the rest. Msi will honour warranty on cards if you removed the cooler just don't loose any of the bits.

I get a little bit of coil whine on my Gigabyte G1 but only when frame rates go quite high, in general it's pretty quiet. It's overclocked to give 1467/7750 which I've been testing for a while without issue so I'm sure it could be pushed further, certainly the memory. The hottest I've seen it is 68 during Crysis 3 and that was with the stock fan curve. I too intend to water cool the card, but due to how cool it runs I don't mind the wait for EK to stock them.

Thanks All,

Kinda leaning towards the Gigabyte as I've heard very good things about how well they Overclock, and I'm hoping that watercooled I could get a serious overclock out of these!

Also just got confirmation from EK that the full cover block for the G1 is being released next Tuesday.

So think that's my mind made up :-)

Thanks for the help guys!

Watercooling wont make much different tbh as it's not temps that are holding these cards back but volts. Lower end of 1500mhz for overclocked on standard bios, mid to high 1500 or even 1600mhz custom bios. If I said my card doesn't go over 55C!

Ah okay....

Well at least it will batter my current pair of 660Ti's very easily.

I haven't had a chance to look at the custom Bios side of things, best get looking seeing as they will be arriving monday :-)

Cheers,
