Cant see gold ticket or the new civ game with any of the 290s. AMD are still saying you get both. Is this a bug on the website or really no stock left?

I cant see any reason to pick a 290 over a 970 now.

290 £217 or 970 £251

Performance wise there on par.. It comes down to the features each card brings.

Not really on par the 970 is a bit faster and you get a game with it. It also uses less power although not mega savings it will add up eventually and negate the small price difference.

Its also cooler, quieter, will hold its value more and should still get some performance boosts from drivers.

If amd dont come with free games anymore i would get a newer tech and shiny 970 :) not to mention they are only £239 now with a choice of a free game ;)

It's not faster at all.
They both offer games they perform better on. It takes a 970 @1.5 to match a 290 @1.2

What an awful comparason, how many 290's will clock that high for 24/7 gaming ? Not very many, i cant speak for the 970 as iv'e never owned one , but from the feedback they seem to have a fair bit more headroom than the average 290.

However comparing good clocking cards against each other isnt the right way to go about comparing gpus , some will clock well , some won't. Thats the reality.

Although it seems stupid, you need to clock the 970 higher to get 290 equivalent performance which can be rightly proven in many of the benchmark threads on this forum.

Also, considering the 290X can be had for £210 at the moment, if you minus the games which you can sell for about £30-40, you have 970 matching performance for almost £60 less.

Not awful at all.. Go and look up Benchmarks on here.. They is nothing in it at all.
All it comes down to is the extra price for the 970 worth it for Nvidia only features only the buyer can answer that.

Really for playing games most people would buy the latest and fastest and no matter which way you look at it the 970 is the latest and a tad faster for not much more.

Now the 290x could have the performance to beat the 970 but imo the model that is £210 would be a risky buy.

Wonder why AMD pulled the games? Civ was basically the main thing going for 290 sales but now nada not even the gold tickets!

The ubi game is nothing special mind but even without it id still pick the 970 over the old war machine 290.

Maybe a price drop is coming? I noticed before black friday civ dropped and now the gold ticket? 290s are just not worth it right now. Civ alone added atleast 20 quid value to the cards!!

In all probability amd are just readying a fresh game package, filtering out some of the older/less desirable games in the process.

The bundles never stay for ever, its an exclusive deal.. Once the Keys are used up the deal is gone. They bring another deal out again later on.

The 290 is still at a very good price point.. Gaming performance they is nothing in it.
So the extra for the 970 is for Nvidia exclusive features. If these what you after then the 970 is the GPU for you. If not then the 290 is at a price point you cant go wrong with.

I think you missed the point, I didn't comment on which card was faster , i was pointing out that that comparing overclocks is a moot point (as is comparing the clock speeds of two totally different cards for that matter ! ) and is no basis to recommend a certain card to anyone.

The exact same argument is going on in F1 , the Old V8 engines VS the new more powerful V6 turbo engines.

The Old 'V8' is cheaper to produce But its noisier, less efficient and not quite as powerful and the old dinosaurs want to cling on to it and bring it back.

The New V6 Turbo is more poweful , more efficient and technically superior and is in reality the way forward.

Without the free games the 290 are not looking like such a good deal IMHO.

+1

'290' @ £189.99 with no games to put pressure on the 970 imho.

'290X 4GB' @ £259.99 and '290X 8GB' @ £309.99. Put some pressure back on the 980, until AMD can get some new cards out, they need to so something..

With the games included the current price was alright, without not so much..

Youre missing the point here! It was 210 with the games so paying 210 is NOT worth it...

Only an idiot would buy a 290 now the full point of getting one was for the games to sweeten the deal.

The 970 had a game you can sell for maybe 20 if youre lucky but it has a game and better features. You can pick up 970s for 240 so 30 quid more for a game and a better all round card?

The 290 is a card to avoid right now.

Wasn't the games free? You didn't pay for the games.

And what extra features apart from the one you can uses without extra hardware it's only Physx.
