Hi, I'm currently at uni and living in a house with 9 other people. We have a TV upstairs and have since September but have not bought a TV licence. Someone decided to check the post and we have 3 letters one if which threatened court summons for not paying for a TV licence.

I believe I read somewhere that the BBC are in breach of their charter for getting funds from the EU and so us paying for a TV licence is treason? Is this true or should we just pay the 150 quid for the licence.

Threatened with doesn't mean you've received one, as the thread title suggests.

Don't even bother trying it with the second line.

If you don't want to pay them, then don't engage in any contact with them at all, don't let them in, don't give them your name, just ignore them.

The TV licence is a joke, not sure it'd be classed as treason mind.

Im buying a new build house, and the scumbags had sent a TV licence letter before it had even finished being built.

Firstly, lol.
Secondly, just pay it. You know the rules, and is the hassle of paying it really worth saving under £150? You can even get a pro-rated refund at the end of the year.
Thirdly, this thread is going to get really long really quickly.

Nah were gonna pay it but I wanted to check if it was actually treason. No one in the house wants to pay the 1000 pound fine

Yes, it's treason. Which is still punishable by death, but only if you eat a swan, whilst burning down the ships yards.
