The Mondeo has gone. Long live the...

Crazy how fast these are shifting - having a nightmare finding one north of Brum with a Nav unit. Really need to call some local dealers and put the word out perhaps? :)

Finding anything north of Watford in a decent spec is pretty much impossible. I don't think I've seen any in the last 3 months. I've made enquiries in Kent, Essex, Basingstoke and Stevenage and I'm from the North West.

The vast majority of these are ex Ford management cars - the number plates all start with E for Essex.

There were less than 1200 2.0 Ecoboost TXS registered in the UK. The ST220 is not exactly common, but there were over 5000 of them. They are pretty rare.

Howard - You said your car has keyless entry. On ETIS it states it has "Keyfree System with Keyless Entry". Is this the system where you can touch the sensor on the door handles with the key in your pocket, or do you need to use the buttons on the fob?

My Dad's facelift car states Keyfree System with Keyless Start and on that you need to press the buttons on the fob, but some of the descriptions are slightly different for the facelifts on ETIS.

They all have keyless start, but keyless entry was an option - mine has it.

To unlock the car 'keylessly', you just grab a handle and pull it to open a door (or the boot), and it'll unlock the car as you do that.

To lock the car, you press the little button on one of the door handles.

I believe 'Keyfree system' refers to the fob and remote locking in conjunction with keyless start - ETIS will state keyless entry if the car has it.

It seems that pre facelift cars with nav, history and under 60k miles will sell pretty much immediately around the £10k mark, I've been checking AutoTrader, PistonHeads, Gumtree and Ebay nationally at least twice a day for nearly 3 months and every one I've enquired about has been reserved the day it went on.

I called up about a facelift car on for £12k today, they said it went on AT about 4pm last night and a deposit was taken within the hour. Got chatting with the salesman, mentioned I'd been looking for a while and wasn't bothered about having a facelift car and ideally wanted something a bit cheaper anyway. He says I might have something for you - I've just appraised a 10 plate car as a trade in against a Ford Direct 2.2 TDCi TXS. He said it's mint, FSH, has nav but he didn't know the rest of the spec but it's coming in on Saturday. I ran the reg number through ETIS whilst on the phone: Nav, Adaptive Cruise, Memory Seats, Privacy Glass, Heated Rear Seats, Keyless Entry, TPMS etc. I had to resist the temptation to snap his hand off and he didn't even have a price at that point! Couple of phone calls later and deal agreed, including my p/x. I've left a small deposit that's refundable if I can find any reason the car cannot be reasonably described as mint.

I might have it on Sunday if the current owner can bring it down early enough on Friday for them to MOT and valet it :)

Sounds good, make sure to post pics and more info etc!

Thought I'd add a quick update for anyone who cares, having had the car for three months now.

It's been faultless (touch wood) and I'm very much enjoying it. The gearbox is excellent and suits my needs perfectly. Economy-wise, I'm averaging 30MPG on my usual 'mixed' driving cycle, up from 25-26 in my old ST220. On a long motorway run at 70MPH I will average 38-39, which I am happy with.

Other than the remap that I've previously written about (and am very happy with), I've done a few bits and pieces in my quest for perfection:

- Updated the 2010 nav map disc to a 2014 one, and then promptly replaced this with a 2013 one once I discovered that Ford decided to omit the (very useful) TMC functionality from the 2014 disc due to "increased licensing costs and not wishing to pass this on to the consumer".. Thanks Ford! Got a £30 voucher out of them by way of compensation but I couldn't find a Ford dealer that would supply me the 2013 disc so I bought one online, and the voucher can go towards its next service.

- Upgraded the firmware on the navigation system and the Bluetooth/USB module (both done separately)

- Replaced the driver's seat base as one of the foam bolsters was worn and slightly damaged - I can only presume the previous owner was a little bit portly...! This was mostly just me being really picky and anal about the condition of the interior really.

- Gearbox oil changed as per the service schedule.

- Replaced all of the interior bulbs and exterior/puddle lamps with (matching) decent quality LEDs to modernise it a bit:

- Replaced the xenon bulbs with Osram CBI 5000K - perfectly white daylight colour temp, and higher output (in lumens) compared to most other 4300k bulbs. A worthy improvement.

- Replaced the slightly corroded wheel centre caps and Ford boot badge with new ones.

- Had a monster detailing session and it's now pretty immaculate:

Only other plans I really have for the near future are to replace the high quality cheap crappy ditchfinder tyres with some Continental Sport Contact 5s. This'll happen after christmas - the current tyres are all nearly new so there's no immediate rush.

I also want to get it on the dyno at the next RR day to see what the remap has done!

Beautiful, more details on detailing please :).

I had a set of Infinity tyres on mine and promptly got rid of them for CCS5s.

It was clayed, then machine polished (sorted out a few paint imperfections nicely) using Meguiars Ultra Cut Compound, then another pass With Ultra Finishing Polish, then sealed and then waxed with Collinite 476. Given it a nice deep liquidy shine and a wonderfully smooth finish!

Did you do it yourself?

A friend of mine helped with the machine polishing, mainly because I am going to get myself a DA polisher and I wanted to learn how to use it properly :) It's all pretty easy though really!

What LEDs have you used in the rear number plate? I had some, but they failed the MOT as they decide to flicker the day before the MOT.
I have some as side lights, but they are failing now too.

It's looking very good your mondeo.
