Interesting read on DSOGaming, it seems Denuvo which is now used by EA was one of the hardest protections against piracy currently being used, but now cracked. Not seen since the days of Starforce

Some users also claimed that Denuvo was responsible for damaging their SSDs, while others claimed that Lords of the Fallen’s performance issues were due to this particular DRM system.

I know this is a grey area on OCUK but this is being discussed on a legit worldwide gaming source

Drm should be a subject were able to discuss as long as we don't stray into the rights and wrongs of the subject they usually apply to.

I for one am glad it's bin cracked, it's not good for the industry and always ends up punishing the legitimate user cough "securom" ... All these "uncrackable DRMs" become crackable eventually ... Jesus by the looks of it denuvo diddnt even last all that long really .

I don't reckon The DRM will be damaging people's hardware as data is written accordence to the ssds firmware and safety features .
It may be affecting performance as any software running in unison eats up CPU cycles . It just depends to what degree . Can't say I've experienced anything wrong with the DRM in its self .

I think the damaging part was just a scam to get people to attack the DRM, however it is a pointless DRM and just like everything will be broken. All it does is hit the customer, pirates don't care

That was surprisingly quick. I heard it was expected to take months at least for it to be overcome.

It just goes to highlight the exercise in futility that using such DRM or copy protection is.

I love this comment from the DSO article :D

Let's take inventory. Has Denuvo really been a great system as said above?

- FIFA 15 releases uncrackable, protected from pirates. It sells about the same as FIFA 14 though. Where is the dramatic spike in sales from all the previously "lost sales" that should now be coming in? Somebody tell me, where are they?

- Lords of the Fallen releases uncrackable. With no pirates to decrease the sales, surely this must score much higher than other games which are pirated to heII and back, right? FIFA fans might just all be so loyal they've always been buying the game. But no such luck. Isn't it like 10 pirates to every 1 sold copy on PC? Wasn't that what Crytek said? WHY DOESN'T THIS SELL 10 TIMES AS MUCH AS OTHER GAMES THEN??! I just don't understand. Why aren't we seeing these "lost sales" not being lost anymore? Where's the incredible profit after shutting down the filthy pirates?

- Dragon Age Inquisition releases uncrackable. Despite no pirates hurting this, it sells about as expected. It doesn't even manage to top the charts anywhere though. Games that have cracks out for them and are being pirated are still outselling this one. How on earth is this possible?

Denuvo isn't DRM. Orgin is the DRM, Denuvo is just a further method of code obfuscation to make cracking the executable more difficult.

Good comment from that guy! I haven't touched a pirate copy of any games for many years now, especially see as they are so cheap these days, it's just not worth the hassle.

Lords Of The Fallen is very unstable I made the mistake of buying when 40% off in the Steam sale last week

Whether its this DRM or not avoid Lords Of The Fallen if you want to have a quiet life it crashes all over the place & you cannot get a refund either. Valve should remove it from sale & give automatic refunds to those who cannot play it for long IMO

Still not been able to play lords of fallen for more than 5 minutes yet and Steam refused a refund.

The joys of gaming these days!

Will be interesting to see how witcher 3 sells as it will provide insight into how a DRM free game does.

If you don't want to pay for a game you either pirate it or don't buy it...

If you want the game enough and can afford it then you buy it.

Seems logical to me and has worked thus far

I read so much bad stuff about this protection, things like "it installs a rootkit", "it affects performance", "it destroys SSD's", "every time you boot up a Denuvo protected game you kill a dolphin" (OK slight exaggeration on the last one :P ).

But in your experience guys, is it really that bad or were a lot of these rumours paranoia because of past DRM issues like Starforce and the Sony rootkit debacle?

lol. Awesome comment. How true. Hopefully this will teach companies a lesson. End of the day if I am going to support a company or franchise I will. Can't wait for a new Deus Ex game, day one purchase again.

As a overall package I prefer FIFA 15 to PES 15, yet I purchased PES 15 as it is available on steam and it is not an EA game. I enjoyed Dragon Age Origin and Mass Effect 1 + 2 and purchased them on Steam back in the day.

EA and Ubisoft need to start pleasing their customers and maybe then they will see my money again one day. God knows how much money I spent on EA games since the early 90's, but roughly the past 3 years they have not seen a penny.

Best part is, one way or another I don't miss out on a game I fancy playing anyway :D

Its not exactly DRM; its more of code morphing. It scrambles the code around the .exe each time you launch from the platform; which it then needs a decode key. Its to keep the exe from being cracked.

I expected it to last a little longer; but as for damaging ssds; doubtful; also far as I know it doesn't install a rootkit. sony learned their lesson after that expensive lawsuit from last time....

Cool so you don't even know its there then? Does it have to call home to a server for a decryption key thus making the games require a internet connection like what Ubisoft did a few years back?
