Stephen Hawking warns artificial intelligence could end mankind

My friend suggested we could keep it in a box, but it would quickly realise it was a slave and be quite angry, uncooperative and probably disastrous if it got out.

There is also the theory that that's why the universe isn't teaming with biological life, all biological life reaches an end game, or another branch of evolution if you like..
Any biological life will eventually create AI which will eventually see no use for biology.

I dissagree, humans are nothing more than biological computers, emotions nothing more than chemical reactions in our brains as a result of stimuli.

It is laughable to claim the brain is anything like a binary computer, the only type of computers we actually use at the moment. Yes, it's all chemistry and physics but considering we don't even understand the processes, how can we even dream of replicating them?

We've had artificial neurons for 30 odd years, it doesn't take much to replicate the same thing with a binary computer.

This is some recent random effort by IBM:

and a model of the brain, Spaun
2.5 million virtual neurons

Correct, the human brain has evolved to survive in the given narrow circumstances.. It's just one link in a chain of extinct animals. It just happens to be the current link, that by no means makes it infallible.

A pure logical system with all of the processing power and all the knowledge of human history would make it, literally a god.

really???? what is this super ai going to do trapped in its box?
nothing of any importance is going to be networked - its can't just launch nuclear missiles. It can't just create a robot body out of thin air.
Ain't gonna happen.

Nobody is going to build an AI and leave it sitting in a box, it will be used to second guess all sorts of systems.

It should make possible some awesome sex toys before it kills us all though

Haha, I've seen Person of Interest, I know how it works :p

Spaun sees a series of digits: 1 2 3; 5 6 7; 3 4 ?. Its neurons fire, and it calculates the next logical number in the sequence. It scrawls out a 5, in legible if messy writing.

What a performance! Now it only needs to control the 32.7 trillion cells in the body, mantain a thought process which features ideas, feelings, dreams, past experiences, personality, insticts, prevent the body from collapsing due to mavity etc. etc. etc. all at the same time.

A pure logical system will never do anything more than to logically follow instructions. It will do exactly what we instruct it to do, no matter how advanced and if it does wipe us out, it won't be "its" decision, it will be the programmers'.
