LG 27MB85Z-B 27

Gutted for those who didn't get one. I didn't actually place my order until the day after they showed on the website as sold out, but because I'd put it in the basket before it sold out and paid directly with my credit card, I got one.

HI there

Well our sales should or will be sending out an email explaining the issue.

In short Amazon checkout seems to have an issue or...

I'm hoping I only haven't received delivery notification because I paid for Saturday delivery, and it's being sent out tomorrow? I didn't pay through Amazon - used your own checkout. Missing out would probably make me a sad panda :(

Arrived and set up. Haven't calibrated it yet, but have a few first impressions. I'll get the bad out of the way as it was the first thing I encountered setting it up, but the stand is BAD. I mean really, really bad. For what is a £550/£600 RRP monitor it's nothing short of shocking. The 27" AOC had a better stand, the 32" Acer has a much, much better stand. In fact I'm fairly sure with 15 minutes, the box it came in, a couple of sticks and some gaffa tape, I could make something better.

That aside, I'm very happy with the screen. Yes it glows, way less than the AOC, not as little as my Eizo, but importantly no bleed, no dead pixels, very good performance even before calibration. The little OSD touch buttons are quite nice too (even though it would be good to have some sort of indicator where they actually are, difficult locating them in a very dim room).

Importantly for £275 it's a ridiculous bargain. Add another £100 for an Ergotron and it's still a cracking deal. Much higher IQ than the AOC, I presume the BenQ too, with the ability to go higher with hardware calibration. I'd say it would be a push to heartily recommend it at full price, only because a monitor that much should really have a better stand, but as long as the image it displays is good that's really what counts.

Hi, do you know what is the best way to calibrate the monitor?
A friend of mine has this Spyder Express color calibrator, which I can borrow. But then what settings do I select from the monitor OSD and specifically the Mode section (Custom, sRGB, AdobeRGB, Calibration).

Also I am currently using it via HDMI to my integrated Intel HD4600 inside my 4790K and so far the picture doesn't great. There is something not quite right, but cannot tell what it is.

Resolution is 2560x1440@60Hz

Basically what are the correct steps to properly install and calibrate the monitor - best cable/port to use, best color setting in the OSD, other settings?

Thank you.

I think the Spyder might work with the True Color Pro software that comes with the monitor.

Just connect the monitor to your computer with the usb cable provided and the Spydet to one of the 3 USB3 ports on the monitor. When you load True Color Pro it should take you through it.

Unfortunately my Pantone calibrator doesn't play nice with True Color Pro so I can't be certain of the exact process as I had to use Pantone's software, which takes you through setting the levels on the monitor prior to calibration.

As above, using LG's True Color software would probably be best. I don't know if any other software can access the LUT in the monitor itself; Usually each manufacturer has their own software to communicate with their own hardware (Not the colorimeter though, I guess LG's one is naff anyway).

After that I assume it's a case of putting it in Calibration mode, if the software doesn't do that automatically.

I haven't done any of this yet as True Colour won't support my i1 Pro, but that's how it works for other monitors of this type.

So what you're saying is 50 or so people who ordered via amazon checkout are getting screwed for a mistake either you or Amazon made?

I'll withhold judgment until I see the list of alternatives you are offering but I'm sincerely hoping for an equivalently spec'd monitor at the same price.

Shouldn't have dropped £35 on a thunderbolt cable I no longer need :(

The last thing we want to do is upset people.
Amazon checkout is fairly new process for us and as such we were not aware of this error when it comes to pre-order not in stock items being ordered, so you have our apologies.

We've found as many alternatives as possible which we've decided to take a hit on to try and offer people alternatives on similar type monitor, but we have nothing that is an exact match unfortunately.

If we can't fix the issue or if Amazon cannot then we won't use their checkout any more or we shall block it from being used on hot pre-order only deals to prevent the error from happening again.

Gutted, didn't order through Amazon thingy but been sent an email with alternatives. Shame really, oh well. Decided to take up the Samsung S27A850TS. Having second thoughts already if I should go for the Samsung 32D850D? :(

What you using it for?

The 27" Samsung is a PLS so more designed towards photography like the LG panel was and was also before a over £500 screen, so very similar and at the price were offering them at to make up for this its a steal!

But the 32" I'd rate better for gaming and is a very modern VGA panel.

Both great for sure and again apologies for this issue.

Be using it more for photography so I will go for the 27" PLS Samsung then :)

Ahh no worries, just one of those things :)

Do you have any info on the 32" input lag? I understand the 27" was 28ms, was wondering if the 32" was the same or better (I assume it is not worse as you suggest it is a superior gaming monitor). I should really go for the 27" as it is more in my price range, but I don't plan on changing my monitor again anytime soon, so may as well go with the better one!

Gibbo any chance you can help me out?

I ordered on 27/11/14 at like 8pm, paid via visa, but still got the out of stock email just now today? I really don't know why I didn't get any stock allocated to me

cheers

Ok, so the Samsung 27 inch has a 28ms input lag, the 32 inch has 31.3ms -41.8ms (depending on setting used). I also know there was a number of issues with the BenQ 32 inch panel regarding banding, I assume the Samsung 32 inch may have the same issue?

With my sensible hat on, I am thinking perhaps the 27 inch is a better way to go. But 32...

The Acer 32" also uses the same panel though (I have one sat next to me) which shows no banding problems.

I am also an unfortunate victim of the Amazon Checkout issue, but I have yet to receive the email with alternative options - have they all been sent out yet?

Yes.

Give our sales a call or webnote with your order number so they can give you the alternatives and options for you. :)

Unfortunately I don't have a CD drive and the drivers + software are not available online.

Btw when calibrating what setting do I use under Mode on the Monitor OSD?

Thank you.
