Will UKIP win its first seat in parliament tonight?

Good to see Nigel embarrassing himself again today:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-30342953

It seems the more airtime him and his party of half wits get the more they say stupid things maybe the old adage about enough rope and hanging yourself will come back to haunt them.

The list of things they are anti seems to get longer and longer while the list of things they would do that are positive is non existent, but don't worry he is a cheeky chappy who likes a pint what more reason could people want to vote for him?

Utterly shocking attitude. As you say, every time he opens his mouth he just digs his grave a little deeper each time.

Talk about getting it wrong(nothing new for DP)

"I remarked that perhaps they might ask women to sit in a corner. Did I say I believe they should have to? No. Did I say I personally endorse this concept? No."

"Businesses had a responsibility to all their customers, he added, suggesting such situations were a "two-way street"

I don't particularly care what Farage's view is, but shocking? Really? Sure, it's a perfectly natural thing but I'm not sure I'd be entirely comfortable with someone on the opposite table doing it in plain view while I'm trying to enjoy a meal, more because it's distracting than embarassing.

People with kids in thinking the whole world should bend over backwards for them total non-shocker. Nothing to do with politics, just common courtesy and consideration for others IMO.

Bit of a non story really, all it's wound up is the guardianistas and Mumsnet crowd. And neither are as important or as influential as they like to think they are

UKIP really are the throwback party. Farage and his mates probably watch Madmen with a wistful tear in their eye.

The thing that annoys me the most is how the BBC now seem to be shamelessly politically biased recently. It annoyed me how a day or so ago, one news story showed Ed Balls tearing into George Osborne but didn't show the response - talk about half a story. Why are we being taxed for this "impartial" organisation again?

The BBC's right wing bias is getting old.

The fact is that the BBC gives greater airtime to right wing politicians than left wing politicians. UKIP, and Mr. Farage in particular, have long got political coverage and a position in debates and comment that is much greater than their actual political influence.

Top this off with an extreme right wing bias in the print media and the BBC's tendency to simply follow stories that are generated elsewhere and you have a pretty toxic environment for balanced media reporting in the UK.

Sorry, but a link to the Grauniad? That's lolworthy. :D

IMO they're giving Farage more airtime in the misguided hope that he'll hang himself with the rope they're giving him. I very much doubt it's to support his agenda and to win him votes. The BBC were probably UKIPs biggest recruiter when it came to the European elections and I'm sure that wasn't the intended outcome.

As for the majority of printed media, I avoid reading it if I can as I find the likes of the Guardian and the Mail equally abhorrent. :)

That's not what I said. Don't even try to spin this. The title was false. The YouGov poll said something completely different.

Typical UKIP supporter. Lying for Farage as usual!

You sound a little unhinged, just saying

British voters are far more likely to think news coverage is biased against UKIP than the other main parties

- yougov

That's the headline i'm talking about, no spin

Utter non story.... totally agree with what he said.

Typical media smearing because they have no other ammunition... running scared maybe?

Women are free to breastfeed... people are free to be embarrased. That is common sense and he just said what any normal person would.

Media is a joke.

Try reading the source for the argument, dear boy. Here, I'll link it directly for you so you don't have to trouble yourself.

He makes a very valid point as to the reason they we're inviting him on all the shows last May. He was on QT, HIGNFY and news channels because they did the same to Nick Griffin and it work very well, just let him talk and he'll hang himself. The BBC got it wrong, he wasn't the BNP Mrk2, and it backfired spectacularly giving lots of traction.

Lol farage just lost the female vote with one idiotic statement, go on Nigel keep the comedy wagon going by election time it will only be old bnp voters left to vote for ukipshambles

And they're continued giving him, and UKIP, vast amounts of coverage in this conspiracy theory, because?

Will read at home (thanks), but I'm going by what I see on their news pages, which I admit I visit pretty much every day. I don't think "right wing" getting more coverage content-wise necessarily equates to bias that way - it depends upon the context in which they appear in.

This breastfeeding row is one example - a disproportionate amount of page space allocated to the whole thing that could concievably be construed as them "having a dig". Minimising column inches would have been a far more sensible approach.

eg: Headline: "Breastfeeding: 'Perhaps sit in corner'" - that's cherrypicking out of context, no?

Ok so the correct answer would be?

Personally i think he was spot on... do it but do it with a bit of decorum and dont sit there baps out in mcdonalds!

Thing is no matter WHAT he said there would be spuds like you lot complaining.

Cameron and Millipede would have said what precisely? either do it and be considerate to others ( same as farage ) or no dont do it!

Shall we quote what he actually said?

A Downing Street spokeswoman said David Cameron "shares the view of the NHS, which is that breastfeeding is completely natural and it's totally unacceptable for any women to be made to feel uncomfortable when breastfeeding in public".

I don't know what Miliband would have said but he has previously supported the 2010 Equality Act and the right of women to breastfeed in public without be made to feel they need to be "considerate to others" (aka that is it shameful to do) so I'd presume he'd make similar comment.

Much more was made of #whitevanman than of this by the BBC and others.

They don't, haven't you noticed he hasn't been on QT for months and any UKIP person for weeks now? Also hasn't been on any panel shows for ages. Yet Russell Howard ran very negative UKIP stories two weeks in a row.

EDIT - Apparently he's on QT next week with Russell Brand, it'll be extremely predictable how that's going to go down, he'll just do a lot of arm waving, yelling, dodging of questions and lots of WHHAAAA WYACIST WYACIST towards Farage, followed by the hand picked audience cheering and clapping like socialist seals on cue

Nice persecution complex you've got going there!

Breastfeeding should be encouraged, but there are certainly manners involved with it, in the same way as there are manners involved in eating a meal or having a conversation. Would you feel comfortable if a couple in a restaurant were having a really loud conversation in the middle of the room or the people on the table all chewed with their mouths open? No, you should do such things discretely, as most people do. The same applies to breastfeeding.
