My ST220 cut out doing 50mph Any advice?

That black pipe is the vacuum hose for the vacuum assisted brake servo , no wonder the car cut out (a massive vacuum leak behind the MAF sensor) and the brakes were crap!

*edit* if you need a grommet, the bay or a ford dealer?

I'm almost certain the steering would have locked when it stalled (after making that clicking noise). Not so sure about the brakes as I have never been in that situation.

Don't be daft. The steering would get heavier but why would it lock?

Thanks I'll have a look. Is there any other possible underlying problems that would have made It pop out? Or will it just be a worn grommet like he said?

Judging by your first photo there looks to be also a torx screw loose :p

I thought that too, glad I'm not going mad!

@OP, just replace the grommet as advised. Go in to any Ford dealer and get shafted, or find one online / ebay.

Yes, I expect the grommet is probably worn.

The engine will rock back and forth a fair bit when on/off the throttle, changing gear etc, so it may have been pulled out due to this (and general vibrations, wear in the grommit etc).

Under full throttle there is little to no vacuum so it may have happened then?.

Dunno! :D :p

It's definitely hard work but you can definitely drive cars even if power steering is down :) I drive my old Audi A4 home without power steering once when there was a bit of a catastrophic failure with all the belts. It was hard work getting out of the multi-storey car park with no power steering lol! The large diesel lump in the front didn't help either

So am I looking for a vacuum hose grommet? Seems slim pickings for grommets in general on eBay .

Christ on a bike, it's going to be like a fiver from ford. Just give the parts dept a ring with your reg number.

Thanks guys for the help. Yeh it does look like number 9 is the part. I'll take it down to my local garage tommorow and get him to sort it for me

I'd have put a cable tie around it by now and forgotten about it.

Yeh but looking at the picture where would u attach the cable tie round? It would have to go right round the engine part it's joining to to hold it down in the grommet
