I wear base layer, ss jersey, softshell/jacket, skullcap/balaclava, sealskinz gloves, long fleece-lined bibshorts, thermal socks, overshoes.

Been sat in my living room for 10 hours and my bike isn't here yet. Grrrrr.

Spoiler alert: There's a note through your door, "Sorry you were out...".

I am wearing,

LS jerseys *2 (thin ones)
1 * Altura LS airstream jersey
1 * Altura Night Vision soft shell LS Jersey
1 * Bib shorts
1 * Bib tights
2 pairs of socks
Northwave Farenheight GTX boots
Mitts with Specialized Sub Sero Gloves
Skull cap

no base layer or jackets

That's for night riding for up to 2 hours

Glad you're ok. I'd report that to the police if I were you. Tempting to report it to his insurers as well. Get the bike checked by a decent shop, get a quote for repairs, get your clothes factored in. I wouldn't hold back in getting it all paid for.

I agree with Von's advice. Don't be tempted to just let it go or give him any leeway as it could come back and bite you later.

Yeah reported on 101 so I'm all covered, haven't spoken to him yet this evening but taken my bike to a good LBS, they'll look at it tomorrow and let me know the quote (asked them to also cover a £50 helmet as mine is now cracked - I have a new one I was bought from there for £50 I haven't worn yet). None of my clothing appears damaged other than scuffs which I'm prepared to live with (have some already!).

I'll give him a few options - pay directly to bikeshop, pay me or if he wants to go through his insurance that's fine too. I've asked the shop to look closely at both wheels and derailer (as at least 1 wheel is buckled/twisted) - the derailer also has some heavy scuffing. Hopefully when they sort it my tricky gearing problems (Halfords could never sort from new) will be gone too! ;)

Yesterday's session was Goddard and had a few one legged drills which confirmed my suspicion that my left leg and glute are weak vs the right. Again I was gasping by half way through trying to maintain the advised levels of power. Then I twigged. Maybe I had put more tension into the tyre/roller interface when I repositioned the bike. Sure enough a half turn anticlockwise made things a lot easier and this was probably more reflective of when I did the FTP and ended up with 314W. Needless to say I have now manually tweaked the FTP down a little so Sweetspot is not quite so ballsouts

Anyway there lies a lesson. Having said that I am quite liking TR and reckon it will go someway to arresting the winter decline that is quite alarming in its rapidity.

I've yet to start TR, have been meaning to for a few weeks as the 'Sufferfest Shine' has worn off for me (Watched the few I have 2 or 3 times and now bored of them lol).

I had a similar issue as you, my only 'long distance' ride was on an improperly tightened trainer so I found it really easy in top gears! Tart's advice is best below, although I only tighten my Road Machine 2 turns after trainer is touching wheel, 3 turns gives me a massive bulge - 2x bigger than a road bulge!

I did the same the first time I did an FTP test/used TR. I now use OMS's suggested method - tighten it so the wheel is just touching and then tighten it three complete turns.

Just out of curiosity

in this freezing weather and frosty morning or evenings

Do you guys wear a base layer and/or jacket?

Just curious because I don't have either of these, I just wear jerseys

These temps between -2 and 2 degrees I wear DHB thermal bibs, tops and a jacket along with some running shorts over my bibs for some extra bum/thigh-warmth. I wear skullcap, gaiter/snood, thermal gloves, and overshoes on any temps lower than 4. If there's a strong windchill or temps lower than -2 I'll also wear a headband, rain/wind cover on helmet and extra baselayer (only done that once so far this winter and overheated).

If it gets any colder than that (say -4 or -2 with additional wind-chill) I'd go to scarf, thermal socks and probably a thicker jacket! If we get the 'long cold winter' that some say is forecast I'm prepared to get some arm and leg warmers too! :o

I've been going out in an underarmour base layer, dhb thermal bib tights, baggy mbt shorts and till the weekend a short sleeve jersey but now have a full length one. Winter gloves and 2 pairs of socks also.

It's kind of already been said but I'd just echo the above really - using an adaptor like that will give you the worst of both worlds. Personally I use SPD and they're great. I need to do lots of small walks whilst wearing my cycling shoes though.

If you commute at all then SPD-SLs are often not the best choice. They're (I imagine) good for weekend and evening rides though.

I commute on SPD-SL's and they're fine, don't really see why SPD would be the better choice except perhaps the recessed cleat, but with very little walking at either end of the journey means SPD-SL's are just as suited, at least for me!

Looks like a week full of low single digit temperatures, time to wrap up warm!

Are there any base layers specifically designed for wicking sweat away rather than adding more warmth, I'm assuming a summer base layer?

I've got a pretty warm winter long sleeve jersey but I wouldn't mind something which would wick the sweat away from my skin more so than adding warmth as the cold isn't an issue with it.

Well, if you have to walk around a bit in your bike shoes it's already not great but perhaps it also really depends on the miles you do. Don't you have to replace SPD-SL cleats ridiculously often? Like every 400 miles or so?

I think you might be turning the wrong knob ;)

Damn it. I was just about to post this :p

I'm surprised that's all you could come up with after me talking about touching wheels and road(y) bulges? :p ;)

Spoke to the guy tonight and he's being more difficult about things now - wants to put it all through his insurance as he's claimed against damage to his car... But in his words "your injuries can't be bad, I was doing less than 5 mph":confused::confused: If that was the case mate I'm fairly sure there's no damage to your car!

Really don't mind though as I'm ok, just now I have no problem milking it for all the scuffs to my clothing, costs to take the bike to LBS and covering my fuel costs for now having to drive to work. :D

My other half works for an insurance brokers and she deals with things like this all the time, she's fairly sure the insurance company would happily cover the costs involved to fully replace my bike & gear providing it's under a grand and I'm not pursuing personal injury (I could, but I really don't want to have to deal with the doctors and 'playing on it' when in reality I've hurt myself far worse before and not done anything about it!). I'm guessing I'm slightly biased as I was looking at new bikes recently lol :o

18.30 delivery.

Unpacked and pedals, wheels, bars and saddle are on. Have held it up against the Soloist and I appear to have selected the right size.

Proper set-up will have to wait until Thursday and it won't get ridden until Monday at the earliest.

blimey, so there's two of you that wear under armour base layers...

I've got long sleeve roll neck Under Armour base layers for when it gets very cold.
