Question re flight assist off...

I want to learn from the get go with the stick playing with flight assist off...

Is there any point? I personally think it would be better in dogfights, much more control and daring maneuvers. Or is it equal?

It is strange for them not to have a full wipe before release and although it's not technically an MMo giving players a month head start is very generous.

The news of no wipe for gamma wouldn't be that bad if they had sorted out all the exploiters who have more wealth than they will ever need. Reading the official forums it's changed potential online players into going solo mode.

If you want to absolutely not need keyboard/mouse you've only really two options IMHO

Use a 360 controller , map the Xpad down to hyperspace/jump and the L3 to flight assist on/off. You don't need a keyboard, I've never used a keyboard (and couldn't anyway as I only play in the Oculus DK2).

I see your point, I did a few runs myself yesterday (made about 4 mill in just over an hour). I dont see it as an exploit though.

Each to their own, I want to get the cash quickly, so I can get into a decent ship and go exploring, and I generaly only get a few hours each week to play. Ultimately, it doesn't affect anyone else.

It affects everyone to some degree as it affects markets and those doing it will have a head start over those who don't, or can't as they have no access to that system.

It'll be a massive, massive ball ache to do that. They have nerfed flight assist off to some degree now anyway - it used to be possible to boost and then flight assist off, therefore going at your absolute maximum speed but being able to rotate around and fire at targets behind you, but they have now made it so that your boost speed is temporary and you cannot go any faster than if you were in normal flight mode going forwards. It's hard to explain until you do it in game. It's the same for other maneuvers in FA off mode, they aren't quite as amazing as you'd expect and are only really worth it in certain situations in my experience.

As Zefan said, they've nerfed Flight Assist Off, and indeed "treaked" the flight model. In doing this they've reduced the options open to pilots during combat so IMHO it was a bad move. Fights use to be varied and dynamic. Now they're pretty much all the same.

So to answer your question, is it worth learning to fly with FA off? Nope! There's only one (maybe two) things worth doing in combat with FA off now, and beyond that its pointless.

Combat is little more now that setting your speed to optimum and turning...

My Starting system is Aiabiko, approx 146Ly from Lave. So no chance I can get there is a sidewinder. lol

Are you able to restart the game from scratch.

Probably going to have to clear my save :(

Stuck in space, cannot throttle, have fuel, joystick axis do not work?

If I self destruct, end up back at station but just float off and cannot control ship?

If I restart game/client, stuck in space again, rinse-repeat.....

Controls work fine in tutorials.

Hope they can sort it, raised a ticket last night if not will have to start grinding again.

So much for perks :D

How odd! What a pain!

Lave and other rare commodities seem fine to me, sure I can make 3-4mil/hour but its a lot of work , interditctions, waiting for the stock to come in to fill my type 6 (imagine a type9 it would take over an hour to fill it). besides I have my preferred route not many people know about it ;)

honestly I think wipe or no wipe it doesn't matter, the backers will get to their goals fast anyway but newbies shouldn't be put off by it many like myself are saving a few ships for the future (still yet try out Eagle !) and there will always be someone of your skill level around, just watch out for the large fish

never thought of that, I didn't know you could, will check once home, if I did then will give myself a good slap

Bet you'd just added a shiny new power-sucking kit to your ship! I did the same and spent several confusing minutes floating around inside a Coriolis bouncing off girders and trespassing above other landing pads..... Not stressful at all :D

Inequality is what will make the game exciting- I hope there will be lots of big dangerous human-controlled ships out there looking to make trouble. Besides, there are already plenty of dangerous NPC ships. It'll make the universe exciting.

Even with a wipe, player character equality would only last for a few days anyway. Most players, like me, will only be able to devote a few hours a week to Elite (I've played Gamma for about four hours and made about 20,000 credits, so I won't be troubling anyone). We won't be able to compete with the kids picking this up at the beginning of the Christmas Hols and grinding away 24/7. There is no need to compete with them anyway- it'll be dead easy to avoid them in a galaxy of 400 billion systems. Jump three or four systems away and I doubt you'll see anyone. Failing that, play solo, it's a plenty rich enough experience to enjoy and ply your own path to riches.

CGrieves you've hit it on the head tbh, one of the guys in my org has a lot more time than the others to play and I suspect although he's going to voluntarily wipe on the 16th he'll still be ahead of us working folk with families by the end of the year!

Thrusters and other modules turned off possibly?
