Big surprise...not.

Anyone who isn't a masochistic optimist or moron realised this before, during and after the fact...

Do i personally care? Not anymore.

We are a society heading for the abyss after a relatively calm malaise, I fully expect a cold corporate world by the end of the 2030s (if not sooner) and i am rather compelled to not reject it either (want to live after all).

I don't remember seeing a story about law enforcement officers torturing little boys in the UK.

wait until the pedo scandal is fully revealed in a few years time about them & MP's having done exactly that when the report finally gets under way. There is some next level shizz with that apparently including satanic worship.. ( that’s stuff been going on for hundreds if not thousands of years with all sorts of people so.. nothing new really )

Time for people to take those rose shades off, its a dog eat dog world. There is no right or wrong here only human nature. Im increasingly taking StriderX's viewpoint, we had our chance and we blew it, just sit back and enjoy the ride down.

As appalling as the torture methods seem, they are not as bad as what our country did in its past, especially during medieval times. Skins were flailed, nails torn, red hot irons inserted in all body cavities, need I go on. Unfortunately, there are many regimes and organizations who continue this barbaric practice. The UK and US must deviate from use of torture if it is to win trust from everyone. Barack Obama was right to condone past events. With today's technology, we must find alternative ways to gain insight and intelligence into people's minds and lines of communications. Unfortunately, Edward Snowden has opened a can of worms which has crippled the US & UK's forms of intelligence gathering, despite his best intentions of publicly showing hidden civilian casualties and illegal practices carried out by minor numbers of our hard working military services.

There are so many pompous people on here, I'm sure your attitude would change if one of your loved ones was killed by an extremist that could have been stopped with a little torture. If electrocuting the balls of ten extremists saves one child then red is positive black is negative and fry the *******!

Problem is, it didn't work.

Suspects said anything they could just in order to put an end to being tortured.

Quite right, fry 'em and fry 'em good.

I care about this, but not as much as I care about the US using drones to kill thousands of innocent people (including hundreds of children) just to eliminate a handful of bad guys who are thousands of miles away from the US and pose no immediate threat.

They are both terrible and I wouldn't be surprised if we are reading a similar summary of the drone program in 10 years time.

They may have tortured 100 people to get 5 hits on extremists to me that's good business, the CIA don't just rock up to the local mosque and go you, you and you come with me, these people get picked up because they have been on websites or chat rooms they shouldn't have been on so unlucky!

Yes torture is bad
I'm glad it was stopped when obamas came in - our modern methods are much better at generating decent Intel (signal, internet, exploitation, biometrics) without compromising our integrity - the snowden thing is worrying because on the one hand its clearly great at finding the bad guys but could be used for the wrong reasons too, and if people are not convinced it will ruin an excellent tool

Without wanting to go off topic too much, no evidence has been presented to the public that mass, suspicionless surveillance works. Smart terrorists simply do not post messages on facebook or gmail detailing their plans. ISIS use strong encryption, TOR, and physical messages for sensitive communications.

There is the separate fact, that just because a program produces information of value, it is not necessarily legitimised.

Well I personally think (in the UK) that enough rules prohibit misuse of these technologies, but understand why people don't trust it. Also if it works so well that it means the terrorists can't use tools like the web or mobile phones then good

Back on topic : torture is bad kids mmmkay

Yikes.

A "little torture" huh? I'm not quite sure you realize the extent of just how horrific some of the methods used were.

Either way, the opposite could be said to your arguement... I'm sure your attitude would change if one of your loved ones was wrongly accused and kept in a tortue prison the last decade

My loved ones wouldn't be viewing extremist material and if they were they would get what they deserved, having spent 16 years in the army and seeing what these people are capable off, they are getting everything they deserve!

Some of the people that have been detained (and tortured) are (and were) completely innocent and cleared for release long ago.

Do you actually research anything? Or just spurt nonsense as you please
