Speeding - Just 1 or 2 mph over limit

Either way still less then the 10% people seem to "dream up" of being "allowed over"

Proof or this simply did not happen.
You have proved absolutely nothing so far. When I see a copy of your ticket showing us how over the limit you were then you become "the one" that shows what everone else has been saying is false. Until then - it's still a myth that someone has been ticketed for <35mph in a 30.

If I recall correctly I remember someone on this forum (owns an Aston Martin, sorry forgot your name) his father was caught going at somewhere between 70 and 80 mph, can't quite remember. That I found quite remarkable.

As far as I was aware the 10% was to account for inaccuracies in speedometer readings, the reason that it's officers discretion is because newer cars are more likely to be accurate.

Older cars without the electronics and potentially worn components don't have that accuracy.

I'm no expert, but pretty sure old and new cars work out speed the same way - rotation sensors?

Thought 10% was to account for the fact that wheel circumference could often vary from the computer assumption but I'd say that applies equally to old cars and new

And the fact EU rules stipulate cars speedo's have to over read but a certain percentage.

I'm fairly sure that's BS as my BMW, even my Tigra was spot on with GPS(which in itself isn't perfect but it's pretty close).

Same as my Subaru here, perfect at 30mph or 100mph

My work collegue was caught doing 33 in a 30, in Newport road cardiff, dubbed the "worst camera's" in Britain, that long strip is full of them its horrendous

I always thought it was 35

Iv accidently gone past a camera doing 34 a 30 zone and never got caught, luckily!

It's always anecdotes...

How is it? I was stating that he was caught at 33mph, which is not much over 30.

I have been caught twice in the last 3 years, SP30, and CU80, not going to hide the fact, but the speeding was 38 in a 30 which is irrelvant to the conversation.

I smell a bit of bully

they allow 5mph over the speed limit, usually if above that they prosecute

not for 1mph over, thats just silly

(coming from someone who's been done lots and lots for speeding, even banned!!)

As a counter point, almost all of my cars have all been anywhere from 5-10% inaccurate when compared to the GPS. My MR2 matched the GPS perfectly, my DC5 was almost 15% out :o

A mate of mine got caught doing 30.0001mph!!1! I saw the ticket with my own eyes and everything!

Well... ok, maybe I didn't see the ticket, but he told me he definitely got caught doing 30.001mph! The copper said that even if he's a thousandth of a mph over 30mph, they'll still prosecute!!!11!
