I sit about 10 foot from my plasma when playing this. Would trackir work for me?

Absolutely. It will need to be reconfigured for that distance to suit your preferences.

I'm really regretting starting this as a pirate / bounty hunter as I'm struggling to make any credits :(

Virtually all money I've made goes out in repairs & fines and I've never had more than 25K at one time. I see people posting about making millions of credits and frankly I don't believe a word of it right now.

I paid off the pirate starting bounty but every interdiction, battle with a wanted ship or stolen cargo increases my fines and hurts my faction. I tried attacking a civillian cargo vessels, because that's what pirates do right? Got nothing but fines,d heafty repair bills and a squad of local security chasing me.

I'm currently sat at hostile with no idea how to improve it in any meaningful way, as security will always interdict and attack me on sight.

I also struggle to find independent stations with a black market. I've maxxed out the in game loans and spent all of last night at 6% hull damage with no windscreen trying to find a system without security so I could scoop enough fuel to get to the next system. Scooping with no windscreen is really hard by the way.

Finally made it to an empire system and sold travel data, got my hull back to 36% (whoop) but cannot collect any bounties and no quests were offered :(

I wanted to play this game as a pirate / bounty hunter but am existing virtually hand-to-mouth, barely making ends meet. I've no idea what happens if I die again, do I lose the ability to access my kickstarter Cobra mk III? It's the pirate ship reward, has tiny hold and is brimming with weapons. I tried trading rare goods but this appears to have been nerfed (10cr profit on acadeon tea) and having hostil faction makes it really really hard to get anywhere without being attacked.

Any tips on how to improve my game experience? I'm close to putting this down for good because I'm not enjoying it and am struggling to get off the starting block.

@Taziir
Urk...
Sounds like starting again may be the one.

I went from the free Eagle and played a bit, doing quests, blasting some shippies.

Recently moved to a hauler to make some pennies trading.
Working towards a cobra ;)

I'd probably get some cargo space in the cobra and do some normal trading.
THat also gets your rep up.
Normal trading, just find high supply and sell to high demand.
No rare stuff.

Eeee, doesn't sound good. I've not even touched the game apart from the combat scenarios. And I know for a fact the only option for me is trading. I have no friends that will be playing this and I just had a feeling trying to get into it starting as a pirate/bounty hunter just won't work. So I'll start trading. Get some pennies and go from there.

Question, is there skills like there is in EVE? Like training? Or can you jump into anything from the get go?

Absolutely. It will need to be reconfigured for that distance to suit your preferences.

I have to say that sounds like epic fun the way you tell it!

Whenever you start again you'll get all your kickstarter startup-options, so yes you'll always have your Cobra option.

The pirate startup option seems to be the best (if you have it)- start, collect and sell your free Eagle, pay off your fine and you've got a half decent ship. Skips the initial couple of hours of grinding anyway.

This is the first time I've looked into this thread so apologies for some questions that someone may be kind enough to answer. I've had a little look online for more information but there's a lot of it about....

The original was a product of the hardware on which it was run. There was lots of emptiness in the game which was fine at the time given how much more advanced it was than pretty much everything other than a Mike Singleton game. How does this new game fill the emptiness? Space games need you to feel small and alone at times but is there always something to see and do? A unique sight that you come across unexpectedly?

Assuming it's totally open ended, what does it do to keep you playing once you've got the best weapons and the best ship? Do you have to go multiplayer to get your kicks at that stage?

Can you fly into the atmosphere of planets? Ever since the first Elite I'm sure most people have dreamed of a totally complete universe that can randomly generate unique planets with unique features such that you really do feel you're infinitely far from home. A modern PC should be able to cope with it. Is Elite Dangerous such a game?

Space is big, and feels really big, but at the same time supercruise means you can skip around. It still feels more expansive than the original Elite.

the fact that you can scan, identify and track ships across an entire system means that you're never really alone, and there are enough "random" points of interest to give you choices. In the core systems stations and systems can get pretty busy. In the Oculus Rift, it still makes me gasp with wonder every time I launch inside a space station.

As for planetary landings, it's not in there but Frontier say it's on the roadmap. I reckon this could flesh the game out enormously, and opens up the possibility of all sorts of other game types. I'm hoping we'll be able to build our own bases, warehouses, homesteads etc on remote systems and hide stuff in them, and at the same time have lots of procedurally generated planetary stuff, alien ruins and artifacts to discover. Who knows?!

For me personally E:D was a no-brainer as I played the original to death, and it's so well integrated with the Rift, but also it just fits the kind of sandbox play-style I like. Players expecting Wing Commander or EVE will be disappointed.

I did the "pirate start" took me a few attempts to figure out how best to do it. Simply put just head out into anarchy systems, pop a few wanted people and focus paying off your federal bounty ASAP. Next focus on building up money so you can get a mining laser, I know this sounds daft but mining laser + cheap refinery will let you bring in some money for upgrades etc.

If you get damaged at any point just blow up your ship, you get a replacement cobra FREE as you were anyway, so no point in paying for repairs. I only had to do this 3 times before I had mined for half an hour and got myself enough to upgrade my power distributor (more pew pew).

I'm now out bounty hunting and taking down the odd hauler in federation space which also happens to have an independent base with a black market in it.

I have been told to "sell my Eagle" but I can't see any options to sell it..

You have to be in the station that the eagle is in then select it and there is a sell option, you get 40k for it

Despite my doubts about whether or not Elite will deliver what I'm really after in a space sim I've just gone and ordered a Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X for myself for Christmas :)

Never used a flight stick before, should be fun.

Using a x52/x52pro is like flying with a stick of celery, dump it and pair the throttle with something better.

Indeed, in your humble opinion

Personally, my enjoyment of this game has increased ten-fold since I forked out for an X52 ... my aging Logitech wasn't cutting the mustard and it's great to be able to do everything in-flight without touching the keyboard - helps enormously when pulling off fancy docking moves :D

I have talked my folks in to ordering me a Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS X for crimbo. But wont get it tilll boxing day. :(

And then I doubt I will get to use it till a few days later. Damn I hate having a wife and kids at times. lol

Roll on retirement in what 25+ years. lol

Those getting the thrustmaster t-flight hotas x... You won't regret it. I got one yesterday and can't put it down! Transformed the game for me. At least the combat scenarios.

Glad I got it over the saitek which got average reviews.
