I have a Htpc with a Nvidia 970... I have blurays and MKV's with Hd audio tracks. My Yam 1030 receiver never seems to the Hd audio mode ever and I see no change on the display... Am using Mpc and Powerdvd

Any ideas? :)

Yep.

Use XBMC/Kodi for play back of the Mkv's. you need to change the audio settings in that to bitstreaming (I think) Only way I could get it to work.
Blu-ray's is another matter. I've been trying to output HD Audio from blu-rays using AMD cards for a fair years now & haven't succeeded yet. :(

software issue, amd cards have supported bitstreaming for years now so it can only be down to the software you are using.

im about to buy a 970 so i hope you can fix it..
My advice is if your using HDMI on your 970..steer clear of bitstreaming...just use pcm.

big advantage is all windows sound mux and play...with bitstream your receiver will switch to a DD or some such mode and all other windows sounds will stop..
HDMI can carry 8 uncompressed channels i think so there is no need to use anything other than PCM with HDMI.
are you using sound card on 970..or another..?Indeed my advice is to use HDMI audio on your 970.

make sure you have configured windows playback devices to use 970 hdmi audio..and its configured for 5.1 channels..
you dont need to worry about the software your using if they are windows compatible and your hdmi playback device is slected and configured for correct channels.
