EE to end Orange Wednesday cinema deal

Your point relies on the flawed idea that the only reason people go to the cinema is because they cannot yet receive it on-demand in the home.

Which is, of course, rubbish.

I read it three times, still makes no sense.

For joe public it's the exact reason.

So you only go to the cinema because you can't get it on bluray?

The big screen etc adds nothing to the experience for you?

Fair enough but it seems fairly obvious that many people do value the cinema experience.

Ah ok, highlight was the term 'only' and I agree with what your saying, seeing stuff first and early is a similar driver with consumers. Look at the queues for games and pre orders when they are released.

Amusing thing is I've just swapped to Vodafone from EE. Guess they knew that it was game over if I had swapped network after 15 years :p

It'll most likely completely stop me going to the cinema. I just hope someone else picks up the deal instead (hopefully Three, that would be ideal for me).

They don't sound like 'free' international calls if it costs you £2.4k a year. It sounds like 'expensive' international calls included as part of some sort of bundle.

Why do people think inclusive things they pay for are 'free'?

Infact hang on, if it saves you a LOT of money why would you want to cancel it just because Orange Wednesdays has stopped?

Is this like your 'Do I spec metallic paint on my 100 grand Porsche' thread where you only really posted so we could swoon over your huge expenditure? :p

Ok its not fee its bundled, but I pay about £50 per month per month per sim which is hardly huge money however as we get 3000 international minutes it saves up a good deal of money. However if I can get out of the contract I can take the same one again but without the "free" phones on a sim only deal for around £68 + Vat so saving me quite a lot if the orange Wednesday thing can be used a get out clause on the contract.

With regards to my other thread, I simply asked for advice, I did not say what I was buying or how much I was spending in the opening post. I fully planed to buy flat black but wanted advice if I was making the wrong move which it seems I probably was.

I was happy with EE as I got a friend's and family discount of 40% but my bill is still around £20. I just don't need that many minutes and the data plan is 5Gb. I don't need that much data for sure, however, three appeals to me as you can use your minutes/data abroad in a lot of countries I visit regularly. So that's probably going to be my move. I don't need many minutes, but the ability to have unlimited data and international roaming included for around £15 or less is very appealing to me.

I never used orange wednesday anyway.

I've had two Wuaki.tv codes sent to me in the last couple of weeks by EE so I'm guessing it will be some kind of tie in with them.

I used one to watch guardians of the galaxy and the quality wasnt too bad. It's better than going to the cinema but not as good as a bluray.

I think this is (potentially) by far the most single most valuable perk I've seen ever offered from a carrier.

Then again, I suppose each plan appeals to completely different types of customer. Lots of people don't leave the country very often and a cheap night out at the cinema a few times a year is way better for them.

Any equipment advantage the cinema has is ruined by all the disadvantages. Anyway, we don't have little 14" CRT TV's in the corner any more, and I rather suspect the movie and cinema industries wouldn't want to harm the status quo.

Guys problem solved , If you have a self Service Ticket machine just select Student Ticket :) I'm 32 & have been doing this for years & I don't even go to UNI , Boom . The staff never check and even if they did you just lie and say you left your card at home.

The Adult Prices in the Cine-world Cinemas are a Rip off of so you can't blame me.

Wont effect me, I just go on a Monday or Tuesday and pay £5 a ticket at my cinema means its not full of plebs and I don't need to get angry at loud people.

Will be interesting to see what new incentive they come up with

Agreed. Even on Vodafone's world traveller package, you're charged £5 per day to use your allowance abroad. Being able to use it for free on 3 is a massive perk.

It maybe the reason for you - it certainly isn't the reason for the queues of people who do go to the cinema.
I'm sure some people do enjoy watching the latest and greatest on a 46" TV in the corner of the room - through fair means of foul.
The big screen is always the draw for me and I cannot see any situation where it won't be. Even if movies were simultaniously released on demand and in the cinema I'd still be going to the larger screen and I expect there would be plenty of "Joe Public" who would be doing the same.

I got the opportunity to see Blade Runner on the big screen for the first time last night. I own about 4 different cuts of this movie including BR - yet the opportunity to see this on a massive screen with good sound far outweights the fact I could watch it at home.

Hopefully Three won't - I like the way they have positioned themselves as a plain simple old mobile phone provider without all the add on crap.

Because I always sent in for the code!!! :p

I tweeted them and they told me that there are other 'great' offers available such as their 'superfast home broadband' EE TV and other ticket offers.

I replied saying that as a current EE customer, it is pretty bad that I didn't know about any of these.

BB x

A bit short-sighted both on EE and the cinema's part. Surely the cinemas make their revenue on overpriced food and add-ons?

Similarly at the o2 Cineworld Sky customers could get two free tickets. Mondays were packed there, now the cinema is absolutely dead.
