Breaking News: Hostages taken in Sydney

As far as I'm aware (which isn't very :p) modern flash/concussion/confusion grenades are like fire crackers in the sense they make lots of noise and flashes to confuse and disorientate someone so that'd tie in with the flashes seen in the videos (I have no sound).

Apparantly they can wear tinted glasses that protect from flashbang effects(ear defenders as well I'd assume).

Thing is when one threw a grenade in that video it was followed by multiple flashes/bangs. Are there flashbangs that explode more than once?.

I sincerely hope no one was killed :(.

might have been several doors, walls and windows being put thropugh at once with explosives

They seemed to be using some grenade of that type to cover the hostages coming out, they certainly weren't messing about though I'd be surprised if any terrorists survived.

We used to have ones called "thunderflashes" the would bang then strobe whilst still banging. Horrible things if you are on the receiving end.

I probably didn't word it well. They went in from more than one side of the building, different news feeds were showing different scenes as it was happening.

Nah it's cool I know what you meant, haven't followed enough of this to realise they had multiple entry points.

2 man breach team, seems oddly planned.

Maybe they have different techniques than us but the team throwing in the thunderflashes would surely been blinding the first 2 men in.

Hope the collateral damage isn't too high, sadly in these situations there would be some, even the best teams in the world account for it.

As I watched that video above I genuinely thought it was like a bad CS:S attack where I'd rush in and your idiot team mates stand back and throw flash bangs in leaving you screwed. Does seem very strange to have one guy go in and the others kind of look like they were going to move forwards but decide not to. of course as he went out of view he may have been shot and it was unsafe to proceed so they tried to blind anyone in the area rather than everyone follow in and get shot.

But in general the concept of one guy going in first and guys behind him not following and chucking in flash bangs seems... odd.

From the video it looks like the guy with the breaching shotgun didn't have any luck gaining access with his door.

Interesting. I couldn't find it googling:(.

A mate told me about his experience with a flashbang caused him to vomit repeatedly. I certainly wouldn't want to experience one.

No doubt there will now be a massive Governmental Inquiry into how and why this occurred and how to stop it from ever happening again whilst conveniently skirting around the real issues with immigration and specifically Muslim incompatibility with 'Western' Values and Culture.

The only 'heads' to roll this time should be the Australian Politicians and Officials who let a known murderer with 'Terrorist' sympathies and 47 Sexual Offences out loose in Public. I hope Ms. May and our own UK Govt. learns from this.

Too many COD players here for my liking :p

Hope no hostages were killed. What an absolute scumbag, anyone with a known history of spouting this stoneage rhetoric, and especially with a history like his, should not be allowed to roam freely.

I didn't like them, they were used during our training quite a bit. The issued ear defenders were terrible.

99.9% have no idea, or have just played COD/CSS/Rainbow Six.

I would go with 100% unless they have been trained by the Australian Police in such matters.

Not every country uses a set standard in how to assault a building.

I don't think the press should be allowed to record that stuff. I always thought they had a 30 second delay in case of such events.
