as long as warranty 2 years or more - don't care

mainly on product quality - and ease and terms of RMA (much more important to me than length of warranty)

you want confidence that a genuine RMA will be accepted and dealt with speedily - which to me is 2 weeks or less

I think you'll find SOGA and warranty are two very different things, buddy. SOGA doesn't care how long your warranty is. You can use SOGA outside the warranty period.

SOGA only says that the item has to last for a "reasonable" amount of time - usually the term the manufacturer puts on the item would be seen as reasonable, getting recourse outside of warranty is extremely rare

Doesn't how much you spend also count to how long an item is expected to last? The manufacturer has a blanket warranty for all the cards, so that's 2 years for a £30 and 2 years for a £500 etc.

It would be unreasonable to expect the £500 card to break within 2 years, however it's perfectly reasonable for the £30 card to break?

That's how i've taken the SOGA, though to me it's hassle i'd rather do without. If it's out of warranty when it breaks i'll get another.

My thinking is everything has a years warranty. After that, if it fails, it's probably not worth much anyway and/or time for an upgrade. I've had I think one PC component that has failed after a 1 year period(mechanical HDD) where the value is the highest, instead they have been dodgy on purchase or within first year.
Also, who really wants to wait for a warranty replacement especially if the value of the item is probably low anyway, especially after 1.5-2 years? Would rather bin it and buy new.
In my opinion the extra warranty on some items has a price tag attached that covers the replacement of the expected faulted parts that will need replacing - so the manufacturer is not out of pocket - you're paying for an insurance for the warranty period and like most insurance policies it's a waste for the average customer.

This is correct. Despite people on here thinking SOGA is worthless, I've personally used it many times and won every time.

A £200 gfx card failing in 2 years would not be seen as reasonable by most people.

However, people on here seem to be more willing than most to bend over and take it ;)

Can't really believe it got to this stage. If you want a card with a longer warranty...buy a card with a longer warranty....simples.

Some people would rather the hassle, i'm fairly easy. I'd rather not have the hassle of quoting SOGA blah blah to get something i've had my fair share of use out of. If it's borked after 2 years+ then it's old gen, good excuse to upgrade if i haven't already.

Third option?

Because when faced with two cards of equal merit, ability and features the obvious choice would be the card with 3 years and not 2 years warranty.

Its all well and good holding a Sun Newspaper POLL... but, 2 years warranty Vs 3 years warranty is hardily a fair battle, really.... it is too safe.

So my poll would be this....

Would you pay 50% less for a brand spanking new graphics card if only came with three months warranty? Y/N?

After 1.5 years a GPU probably holds at least 1/2 its value second hand. And a new equal replacement a bit more than the second hand value. For a high end GPU £250+ that's still a decent chunk of money to a lot of people.

Speaking of other components, I was glad my PSU had more than a 1 year warranty.

No. Basically if you take a small claim with someone and the judge thinks you are wasting everyone's time by taking out a small claim (e.g. if you need an experts report to prove your case and that report costs several hundred pounds, which is quite likely for a case like this), then he'll just throw it out.

Basically going to small claims court is a complete waste of time unless you can prove it with a single photo - like bad workmanship or the like. And even then there's no guarantee the person will make any attempt to actually pay the debt.

You've taken people to court?
Or just made a nuisance of yourself to them?

I've no idea how the SOGA works, other than what the BBC has posted every now and again. That's just how i read it, i've not a clue how to claim and tbh, i wouldn't.

Way too lazy :)

If there are two almost identical items, but one has a 2 year warranty, and the other a 3 year warranty, I'll take the 3 year warranty, as I see it as extra added value.
If a manufacturer has confidence in a product, then an extra years warranty shouldn't bother them at all...
The poll is skewed, so I won't bother voting ;)

it depends for me, if im spending little money e.g 150 quid then I want the max merit, ability and features! if it pops after 2 years its not gonna hurt me much.

if I was to buy a TITAN Z for mega money then it better have a long ass warranty because im not pulling out the big bucks twice if it pops.
