Hey all,

I was looking for an online retailer (that's reasonably priced) to get some nice beers/ales for the Christmas period.
There's a nice place near me that do stuff on tap, getting new stuff in every week etc and I usually get my stuff in growlers.
But they don't do a lot of bottles and I don't want to travel back and forth with growlers so I was hoping to get a big box with a nice selection.

Anyone know of a good place to get them?

Any recommendations to drink? (i'll taste anything once :p )

Thanks :)

Also keep an eye on Groupon at the moment, they seem to have quite a few Craft Beer boxes on offer which are decently priced.

Most of the major supermarkets have a decent enough selection of ales. Sainsbury's have Wye Valley Butty Bach currently which is me sorted for Christmas!

Would you be willing to travel to Glasgow?

Hippo Beers, Drygate Brewery and Good Spirits Company will sort you out.

I just went to the local beer and wine shop and picked up a selection.

Waitrose are usually quite good too.

This was what I did last year, I was hoping I could get a larger selection online and maybe cheaper.

Any beer by these guys:

Recommend the IPAs.

Also anything from Buxton Brewery.

I'm sure I've had something from them.
Gotta love a nice IPA

No can do really, limited to the edinburgh area if I'm shopping in person.

It looks Like I may get a selection box from BeerHawk (or two ;) )
It looks fair priced and a nice selection

Google edinburgh breweries all the small ones will deal direct with the public buy a couple of boxes 'like wine boxes' and your sorted for Christmas and saving a local industry.

Love having a box of farmers gold in the house (bradfield brewery just outside Sheffield)

BrewDog gets my vote. 15% off on takeaway bottles in the bars at the moment. Missus going in later to get me some. Cocoa Psycho does it for me.

A mate of mine is a shareholder (lucky *******) and he gets the experimental beers, generally sells them on to me because he's not much of a beer drinker.

Love brewdog, I am an unapologetic fanboy.

I like Brewdog beers, but the whole 'punk' thing is just a joke now. They are probably the biggest craft beer brand in the UK, with their own trendy bars selling their own beer for £5-6 a pint... lol. Talk about 'keeping it real, man'

Also anything from Buxton Brewery.

+1 for Buxton, if you can get it. Smashing selection, especially the stronger IPAs.

Dogfish Head DNA American IPA is an interesting one (Morrisons, Ocado). It's probably not for the older IPA heads as it's lighter. Very quaffable though. Adnams also do a few different ones (again at Morrisons) which are worth looking at.

Other than IPA, I'm into Belgian and German beers mainly. Some good ones are readily available in supermarkets -

Erdinger
Weihenstephaner
Hoegaarden
Tripel Karmeliet
Leffe Brun

Trappiste Rochefort is worth looking out for, probably not in any supermarkets but they are very tasty and would go down well at Christmas.

And if you do find a nice shop with Begian beers, then don't miss the quintessential Christmas beer (for me), Delirium Christmas:

Yeah didn't mention them, since I would've thought that'd be obvious by now!

OP needs to find a nice independent and just ask for a selection I reckon. Should be loads up there!

Brewdog do some interesting and tasty beer, but sone are wacky for the sake of being out there rather than the flavour. It also annoys me that they'll only serve certain beers in 2/3 pints and halves. We're not bloody Australian! Making beer so strong that they feel they have to do this is frustrating. I will give them credit for increasing the profile of craft ale, but it's just got a bit too cool - the pubs aren't just about great tasting beer as far as I can see, it's a bit more of a scene.

The staff in Cardiff are great. Gave my missus a list earlier and she got me a dozen bottles. I found this out when one of the staff members used her phone to call me and commend me for my great taste. Very friendly and relaxed in there.
