The Mondeo has gone. Long live the...

For me this is the problem, 33-35mpg from a 2 litre petrol Mondeo that does 0-60 in 9.6 is just absolutely unacceptable. It drinks like a big German Six but has half the power...

I agree, I didnt want the diesel as I didnt want DPF issues and everything else that goes with them. the 2.5 was way over budget. When i was looking for cars, it ticked all the other boxes, so for the time being, i am putting up with the poor mpg, and performance as the car does everything else so well. mpg not a huge problem, as current milage is around £10k per year.

I could have looked at other cars, but for the price, the mondeo was so much better than the rest.

I'm certain you could match those figures in a 2.5t though - in terms of a car for Amraam.

I can get nearly 39 on a run in mine, and I'm averaging 30 with about 70/30 urban/motorway.

Get the 2.5T, it'll also be crap on fuel but it'll have the power (and noise) to make up for it.

And as always, it's all well and good saying get the 2.5t, but point me to a good car near me and I'll buy it...

It's not like I'm not looking...

THis is the nearest one to me at 126miles straight line:

And it looks like a shady back street dealer. There are also all the turbo and extra parts to think about. A fast 2.5t is going to have been ragged around a lot more than a bog standard 2 zetec...

The 2.5T engine is extremely competent and very reliable. There are enough of these engines around that parts shouldn't be a problem to find. But as with any car, check if it's been regularly serviced and it should be fine. I don't see why a fast 2.5T means that the car has been ragged around. The Mondeo is hardly the car to rag around, there's the Focus ST for that.

Anyway, if you did really want a 2.5T, then either be prepared to wait or be willing to travel the distance to see one. I travelled 200miles from Surrey to Hull to pick up my 2.5T Titanium X Sport and didn't regret it.

Your point is valid though, it's all well and good saying get the 2.5T, but they are not common cars. So really it depends what you want. If you don't really care about power or fuel economy, your original link is probably fine. It's nothing to shout about but it gets you from A to B in relative comfort. If you want something with a better engine and more toys for the same price, then you will have to be patient. It took me a very long time to find my second Mondeo and I'm sure the other guys in this thread have had to wait a long time to find theirs as well for the right price.

Exactly, and if I can get a 2.5t that gives much more fun for the same (more or less) fuel cost, than I will. I have been looking for a car since June and nothing like this has come about near me - even standard 2.0 zetecs are hard to come by at my budget (£7k absolute max)...

Not really.

I dunno, maybe (well, definitely) I worry too much, but what's going to have ragged around more? A 2.0 SRi Astra, or a 2.0t VXR? Hardly the same car, but the 2.5T engine is going to appeal to a boy racer much more than a 2.0 zetec, and (to be blunt), for the exact same reason it appeals to you and I more: speed.

Looks nice, possibly a bit pricey?

I considered a 2.5T but I had a ceiling price of £6k in my head for one. Any more than that and I think it's worth paying the extra for an Ecoboost. I wanted Powershift really.

Ok can somebody confirm that the Mondeo needs the Powershift gearbox oil change at 3 years or 36000 miles as the dealer i just spoke to does not seem to think it does and its only certain models such as the S-Max and Galaxy? The car im looking at is the 2011 model.

The Sea Grey estate is my favourite and seems the best-specced, but it seems a little keenly-priced. Not massively so, though.

I'd personally probably want to hold out for a Titanium X Sport, mind you.

I agree, but I can't keep waiting. I've not had a car for 6 months, and it's hampering every part of my life - girlfriend (won't admit it) is getting ****ed off, parents are, need it for work, stopping hobbies etc... At the same time, a cheap A-B car simply will not suffice...

I'm going to call those three now, see if I can guage if the garages are reputable or not.

EDIT: I've just spoken with them, and it's still FS. It used to belong to a copper and has been looked after by this dealer for the majority of its life. Unfortunately, someone is going to view it tomorrow and it'd be Tuesday next week before I could get down, so looks like I'm going to miss out on this one :(
