Just a quick question, as you folk are a lot more honest and smarter then some of my friends ;)

Interview tomorrow, 9pm for 2 1/2 hours and be a part of a group debate/interview/assessment/meet the staff to chat.

I then get a phone call earlier to say I do not have to attend the group event and I'll have my own interview at 11:30am, and to have a small assessment.

I cannot figure if this is a positive or negative. One of my better strengths is standing out in a group (I'm a competitor) so instead of feeling quite confident. I'm meh

Maybe the group event is just a feel good thing in case they need more staff in the future,
A separate interview sounds better to me, why waste time otherwise.

You get a special one on one backroom casting.

If I see a black sofa I may just walk out... Or get on all four's if the pay's right lol.

I know interview on it's own should be better as it's focused on me, but I've never failed a group interview, and I've failed only 2 solo interviews so I'm worrying

Are you sure they're still holding the group interview at all? Or it could well be that you're being looked at for a different role to the other candidates attending the group session - perhaps something a little more junior/senior? You've offered no information about the job so can't guess really. It's unlikely to be a bad thing - if they didn't want you, they'd just cancel your interview rather than arranging something different.

As to group/solo interviews; you shouldn't focus on past successes and failures, but prepare appropriately for each job as you apply for it. Why do you feel that you stand out better in a group? The same comparisons will be made between yourself and other candidates in both types of interview, it's just that you're in the same room in one scenario. Focus on putting yourself across as an excellent candidate for the role, not just the person that shouts loudest in a group.

Perhaps its a test.

Perhaps they fed everyone the same line to see who actually turns up. They said that you don't "Have" to attend. They've given you the option!

I'll view it as a positive then.

I have 3 interviews in the next 3 days and this role is the one I prefer, although it's quite far from home and my car will die within a month of attending :P.

I know they group interview is still taking place as I'm set to be interviewed as that is finished.

This is their first email to me

"Good Morning,

I am pleased to confirm that Wren Living would like to invite you to attend our Customer Service recruitment event!

The event will be held at Wren Living’s home office – The Nest.

Attendees are asked to arrive at The Nest shortly before 9am on Wednesday 17th November 2014.
The event will last 2 - 2½ hours.

Throughout the morning we will be looking for candidates with the following skills:

· IT literate
· Basic arithmetic
· Communication – both written and verbal

Throughout the morning you will have the opportunity to speak with existing members of the Wren Living team, to find out more about life with Wren!

Please confirm via email to myself that you can attend on 17th December to secure your place at our Recruitment event!"

Obviously I have those skills and then some.

But you're right, having someone solely focus on me during interview can only be a good thing :)

I dread driving over the Humber Bridge lol

Then you don't get hired.

If you can't do things for yourself then what use are you?

No use in having a competitive attitude if you're all hot air without the ability to do anything without a group of people backing you up.

They probably had people dropping out, or whoever was running the assessment wasn't available that day. It's neither positive nor negative really.

If it's for customer services I'd expect some sort of (non-sexual) role-playing games on dealing with different types of customer, making sure that you deal with it efficiently and that the details of the resulting actions of the call are all written down/entered into the system correctly.

I do wonder what "IT literate" actually means these days though...

When I worked for ****** it meant, the ability to use Outlook and their inbuilt software.. which was easier to use then their actual site ;)

I'm feeling confident now, never worked at a head office other then ****** and this is their sister company :)

Surely that depends on what kind of services... and what kind of customer, for that matter! :o

Ability to use Facebook, based on some people I've worked with over the past few years...

Group interviews aren't always about outshining the others by out-competing them. They're to show how you respond in unfamiliar dynamics and group-settings. Basically, like watching children to see if they can play together nicely.

If I was in your shoes an unsure, I would simply politely e-mail them and ask for confirmation that they do not want me to attend the group-interview. It looks like an original generic mail-shot to me though, so I'd take the follow-up e-mail as a positive.

Interview went ok.

I had a 24 year old girl who's been with the company 3 years, started in the position I applied for and now manages her team. Made her laugh, explained why I'd be good at the job etc..

I hate the whole, you'll hear by Monday.

She asked if I had questions so I asked 3, but none regarding salary as it was already stated, we covered hours and what the role will entail. Just got shafted by a maths exam which I think I got about 88% on... been a while :(
