Morning guys.

Just been offered a Contract position at JLR on very good money for 18 months. With the possibility of extension.

Anyone from JLR know how likely is an extension or move over to employee would be? Basically I have a staff position at the min, I really want in at JLR but have a house and mortgage and all that good stuff so want some reassurance if anyone on here has any experience at JLR on this sort of thing?

Im sure I read that a few on here are.

Cheers

It's most likely to depend on the fortunes of the company to be honest. Which will mostly depend on how well the XE sells.

Sure it will look good on your CV regardless, maybe put the payrise to one side and have it as a fall back for a worst case scenario?

I know quite a few friends at/was at JLR design studio. All of them seem to like it (exciting design work etc) but the only downside was living in/near Coventry (as such many lived in Leamington Spa). I believe they didn't have an issue getting extensions.

Cheers. I own a home 4 miles away in a very nice village, so dont have that issue, the job is Gaydon site which is far nicer then the Whitley or Cov site.

Its typically to take you to year end or Finabcial end so 18months is a little odd but thats longer that either of the cuts off ive suggested. Typically you get renewed purchase order several weeks anyway.

My current run of contracting at JLR I've been going since April 2010!

It is till end of March 2016, so 15 months.

Thanks Jonny. I presume your happy to keep contracting and never inquired about becoming staff?

I work there as a permanent, many contracts are constantly renewed or people offered permanent roles etc.

V.Good company to work for currently and only on the up, if there is any more questions you have let me know,

Oh, btw, if it's in Gaydon and you live 4 miles away, cycle, it'll be quicker than parking and driving!

The growth their experiencing means they'll probably want to keep you on. I've got multiple friends and family there as full time staff and they seem to love it, but have been working increasingly hard in the last few years. Go for it :)
