Hi All,

I am looking to convert my current home server into a machine that is capable of gaming.
The current setup is in my signature, personal the CPU and GFX cards need upgrading but everything else I think should be OK for the time being?

As its a GFX card forum what would you suggest as an upgrade?
If it helps I am looking at an i5 CPU (Budget around £350 for both).

Case - Fractal Design Define R3
Motherboard - ASUS P8 H67-M LE
CPU - Intel Celeron G530 @ 2.40GHz (Sandy Bridge)
GPU - None (Integrated Graphics from CPU)
PSU - Be Quiet Straight Power 480W Semi Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply
RAM - CORSAIR VENGEANCE BLUE 4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 C9 1600MHZ
HDD - 1x 60GB (OS Drive) Seagate Momentous 5400RPM & 2x 2TB (Storage and Backup Drive) WD Green Caviar 7200RPM

This sounds like the best option! And the most cost effective! Forget the 290 as it will need a higher rated PSU! The 970 should be fine with that PSU and a i5 with no overclocking ofc. Maybe a small overclock on the CPU would be fine but not on the GPU.

Thanks for you input guys.
Done some looking around and I do like your ideas, but must admit I am a little dubious about buying a 2nd hand CPU.

Flinco you said about a 2500k i5 but I have found a decent i5-4670K from a reputable seller on a well known auction site, would this be to much for my PSU along with the 970.
 
Your motherboard can only accept cpus that fit the socket, LGA 1155 so your looking at sandy bridge cpus.. The 2500k is your best bet as suggested. The i5 4670k is two generations above the 2500k. Which use a different socket.
