A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a man who was stabbed to death in north London.

Christopher John Barry, 53, was killed on Sunday evening at his home in The Broadway, Edmonton. Post-mortem tests found he had been stabbed in the chest.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on Wednesday.

Another boy aged 13, and three aged 14, have been bailed until January after their arrest on suspicion of murder.

Mr Barry, who was known as Jack, is understood to have been returning home with a female friend, when he was involved in an altercation with a group as he tried to get into the building.

What a waste of two lives.

Murdering someone because they wouldn't let you into a building? What a little scumbag, hope he gets 25 years minimum. Also, what the hell were his parents doing? They should be facing charges too. Is what the next generation of children are going to be like? A lot of the kids in my area have very little respect for anyone. Kids generally are a pretty good reflection of their parents.

I somewhat doubt the kind of teenagers who do this were ever going to go on and find the cure for cancer, create peace in the Middle East or become the next Chopin.

There is no waste of life here other than the victim. Ignoring that, it's a question whether what is cheaper, keeping them in prison or paying for their life-long benefits if he hadn't committed this disgusting act.

I wonder if the lad was like 'u disrespectin' me blud? I gonna stab you up!'

Lots of kids, regardless of race or creed, seem not to understand the concept that respect is earned and not just a given.

I disagree, with the exception of all but a few I don't believe people are born bad.

I know people who had similarly bleak outlooks at that age (albeit they didn't commit murder) and went on to be the very best in their field and live as happily and peacefully as anyone.

Of course his actions cant be ignored but your idea that a person is bad and will remain bad for the duration of their life is wrong.

I didn't say he was born bad, but the kind of people who go around in knife wielding gangs don't tend, on average, to be people with good upbringings arnd rarely go on to be net contributors to society.

I'm not saying absolutely no one who has that kind of teenage lifestyle can't go on to turn things around and provide a positive contribution to life, only that statistically it's very rare and therefore saying it's a waste of life for these guys to spend a majority of their consciousness confined to a prison cell probably isn't a waste of life.

Yep. I imagine there's a cheeky race angle here too. That's the norm.

Nothing about the boy has been mentioned in the media because he's a minor. Interesting how you think he's a minority though ;)

I think that the OP thinks that the boy is not white.

Until he says that then maybe you should not jump to conclusions otherwise you just come across as a bit of a hypocrite. You can't accuse someone of bias when you are employing the same mechanism yourself. He has quite clearly said in this thread that people are not born bad so we can conclude that the person skin has nothing to do with his viewpoint. If he then believes that certain people are raised in environments that increase their chances to commit crimes then I actually agree with him and so do the academic who do research into the causes of crime.

And also to add that I worked in a Juvenile prison with lots of boys who came from the same environments and the majority of them were white English.
