The Mondeo has gone. Long live the...

OH HAI!

Turned out to be a very nice car indeed, not tremendously well specced but a serious step up from the diseasel I was driving and of course sounds immensely better too! :D

When I get a chance I'll clean it and get some proper pics up :)

I had my car dyno'd this morning to see what the remap has done. Made a little less BHP than I was expecting at 228, but torque was bang on at 265 lb-ft. Still, it's a healthy increase over stock and it certainly drives better. It'll be interesting to see how it performs on the Powerstation dyno as that is pretty accurate, and the one I used today is affectionately known as the heartbreaker dyno... Still, it's all guesswork really!

I know the Superchips/Bluefin remaps have to be pretty conservative in order to be so reliable as a generic plug-in remap, and fair play to them; they do seem reliable. I think it's a little cheeky of them to publish such big increases (almost 260bhp in the case of my engine) however. But hey ho, it is what it is - an inexpensive extra 30bhp!

I like it Howard & Blueboy, they are nice cars.

I do think they lack some of the character of the ST220 though, mostly just due to the sound, ST220 sound great. It is a much more modern, better appointed car though, I don't think you can really get much more for your money than that.

I was looking at them a couple of years ago but they were a bit expensive at the time.

Howard - Do your LED's in the interior lights glow when powered off? I've bought cheap ones from PUL and the 24 LED panel for the front interior light glows to the point it's distracting when it's supposed to be off. I'll stick it in the boot instead.

I've read somewhere that the CANBUS items don't glow because they've got a resistor in them which prevents it.

I have had this with other LED's in the past but the glow was so slight it didn't bother me.

Nope, mine don't glow. I had some bulbs in the puddle lights on my old Mondeo that glowed ever so slightly when they were off, but we're talking the faintest glow.

All of the ones I bought for my new car from PUL were CANBUS compatible because it seemed rude not to, considering there was no price difference.

For reference, this is the one I have in the front courtesy light:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Festo...ATE-INTERIOR-LIGHT-Xenon-White-/320872173599?

And it's almost ridiculously bright when it's on, but doesn't glow when it's off.

The world has officially gone mad, how is a 7 year old Mondeo worth £9k? Don't get me wrong, I love Mondeos, but... £9k?

I remember buying my 4 year old Ghia X for under £3k!

 £9k?!?!

That's way too much! I paid £5.5k for my 2.5T Titanium with 17k on the clock - he's be lucky to get anywhere near that as a private seller!

Its a very low state of tune, not much boost as standard, and fairly high compression for a turbo lump I believe....also emissions limited its potential in this application - its £285 tax, you could have more power quite easily but they'd not be at all good on emissions, and how many folk are willing to spend £485 per year to tax a Mondeo.

These 5 cylinder lumps are a fairly old design now, being developed from the 5 pot Volvo engines that date back to the 850 T5 era..the 2.5T dies with the last generation of Focus and Mondeo and has been replaced by the Ecoboost.

Remap to ~250bhp without much bother mind, and loads of torque, a very lazy car to drive. 300bhp is achievable with bolt on bits only, in the Focus world at least.

You can say the same about any turbocharged engine really. There are a multitude of reasons why manufacturers don't sell them tuned to their maximum potential!

It would have been nice if perhaps the 2.5T in the Titanium X Sport had a bit more power than it does in the grandad Ghia versions though.
