new monitor, lost sound

Just got a dell p2715q

Set it up with the mini display port to my gfx card but now I can't get any sound through my headphones or speakers from the soundcard

Ive tried changing the output in the taskbar from dell speakers (which I don't have :confused:

) but still no luck

Anybody got any ideas?

I'm guessing its probably something simple I'm overlooking

Go to your ' Control Panel ' ---> ' Sound ' ----> ( you will see choices ) go and pick your sound card click right on it and ' Set as Default Device '

ps.when you using DP or mini DP it will activate sound option on PC which its possible that your PC now set DP as Default so just set it back to your sound card .

You didn't knock the audio cable whilst you were plugging in the monitor?

Ta, I managed to figure it out basically doing exactly what you said
