Because you can't drive after 1/2 pints? Not a lot of alcoholic drinks are actually nice enough to justify drinking "just because".

Walk? Get a taxi? Get a bus to town?

I don't drink "just because", I drink because I enjoy the social side of it, I work my way through 1 or 2 different bottles of ale or cider each week, it's a joy to try something different, sometimes its a disappointment, other times you find an absolute gem of a drink. I have a friend that brews his own beer, always pop round and have a couple when he bottles or barrels one of his new creations.

I'd rather drive two tipsy mates to a local takeaway and have them pay for my food than pay for it myself, it's exactly the same amount of driving I just get free food.

Never had an issue driving tipsy people around in my Audi, considering my friends all respect other people property.

A take away is 5 quid! and if its a kebab you are talking about eating one sober is just well wrong!

Ahh I see...Driving still a novelty...:D Bless!

He's not been driving long... Novelty...

Parking my car in a pub carpark when out enjoying myself is not my idea of fun...

As for the social side of things and taste and trying new things....I totally agree with you....

When I was 21 though... I would have laughed at you while drinking thunderbird! :D

We normally end up going to an Indian restaurant and sitting in, or one of the many other restaurants open late.

I drive 600/700 miles a week for work, it's not really a small amount.

I've no issue if people that enjoy drinking want to drink, but the fact you are getting so defensive over the idea someone doesn't like alcohol is insane.

I'm also disabled, so having my own car around is more useful than having to get a taxi if people decided they want a change.

Lives, sleeps and does pretty much everything in the car :)

at 21 I would have been asleep in a ditch after 8 or 9 pints of Guinness!

I Spent a load of money in ASDA this week, Bottles of ale are 4 for £5. Each bottle was different, if they are nice, they will go on the nice list, if they are horrible they will be forgotten!

I don't think he is hating on people that dislike alcohol, it's the way people just go "Nope, never drinking again!" just because they have had a year or two of messy binge drinking, Just moderate!!

I'm not getting defensive...I'm stopping you in your tracks about your pointless comment...

I get that people don't like alcohol..but the fact you are getting so defensive over the idea someone drinks alcohol for the taste is insane.

I meant that I don't like alcohol? I understand completely that people enjoy the taste and experience of trying many different drinks. I spend my Friday in a small local pub with 3 friends that tried a pint of every ale they had on tap.

I used to drink whisky, gin and cider fairly often and did enjoy trying and finding new nice drinks, but at this point in my life being able to drive at unexpected times means more to me than alcohol. I need my car for work, my work hours are also unpredictable. I also need my car to get around as my right ankle is ruined. After more than a year of not drinking I've lost my taste for alcoholic drinks.

Good luck mate.

Something I couldn't do as I do enjoy a good drink, as having tried I just enjoy the taste too much.

Saying that on the other end of the spectrum my dad had a liver transplant in the summer, he was experiencing serious liver damage due to drink so have seen what alcohol can do.

This Christmas will be a special one as it will be the first with my little daughter, and whilst sitting round the table last year we did not know wether dad would be here this year!

You stopped drinking after hurting your ankle?:)

I stopped drinking after passing my test, my ankle has been dodgy for years. I'm 3 weeks into recovering from having an arthroscopy, which will hopefully help.
The issue with my ankle has been caused by another serious medical condition that often causes me even more issues with mobility.

Well I applaud you..You sound like a mature 21 year old.

I couldn't drive my mates around at your age...I was too busy getting ******:o:p

670 days sober for me currently.

I'm a complete train wreck when I'm out and drunk, woke up every single morning after a night out with a feeling of guilt and shame (usually deserved) and it only got worse.

Also drank at home, about two bottles of whiskey a week maybe three some weeks.

It gradually occurred to me that I was what they apparently call a functional alcoholic and I tried to give up/cut down a few times, then one day I was hung over (again) and I decided to not drink any more... but it felt different. It wasn't out of guilt for something terrible or stupid that I'd done, it wasn't because it was an unusually bad hangover, it was just because I wanted to. I felt like I knew it would stick, and it did.

I am 100% unable to moderate my drinking, tried to cut down and control it several times - never got anywhere near. Once I've got one or two drinks in me I just want more, and I'll make sure I get it.

When people hassle me about why I don't drink I just say that I unlocked all the achievements.

Also I don't miss it. Probably once every few months I think yeah I'd like a drink, but it passes in moments. I don't crave it and I'm glad. I am not a good drunk.

I used to go out 4-5 times a week at uni all the way up to a few weeks before exams. In hindsight it was an atrocious waste of money. I now have a drink maybe a couple of times a year, when friends are visiting or sometimes when we go to parties. Having had a father and brother who have had drink problems in the past also sealed the deal for me mostly avoiding drinks and not drinking for leisure.

Drink water, better for your health in the long run. Also more money in your pocket that you can set aside to retire early (by investing it correctly).

I'm another that doesn't really enjoy the taste of alcohol. I fully understand that some people do and that they'll enjoy the odd drink now and then because of that. What gets on my nerves are the people who think I'm not living life to the full because I don't drink often and hark on about it.

Water is most certainly my favourite tipple these days, call me boring but I even prefer that over squash :D

Alcoholic drinks have a massive range of tastes and flavours. That's like saying I don't like the taste of meat.
