What did you do to your bike today?

One internet cookie for you! :D

Yep, a 2001 Honda CB400 super four, one of the VTEC models. 32k miles, so barely run in :D very good condition - not mint but it's 13 years old so not to be expected. Runs like a sewing machine, sounds nice with just the standard pipe - stops VERY well, it's light as anything (188kg wet weight), and revs to 14krpm, VTEC kicks in (yo!) at about 7k - nice and dosile below this but it doesn't half shift when "in the zone" for something with only 50bhp. I was quite surprised at how quickly I was doing 70, 80, and so-on when opening the throttle, should be perfect for the winter commute and also for a some fun time at the weekend :D

Was lovely to ride, not too small, nice and comfy seat but handled very nicely (160 section rear tyre).

It'll have 12 months MOT, a bit of warranty, decent tyres that will see me through the rest of winter. I'll probably book it in for an allyearbiker ACF-50 treatment in the new year, and I'll need to change the mirrors as they're huge ones at the moment.

I'll stick some pics in the new bike thread when I pick it up on the 29th, gonna be a long week and a bit!

Loads of places, Dodford, weeden, the ranch, market Harborough, Woodford and more and they are all local :D apparently there is a track in Brigstock

Hornet - tank range is far from ideal, I think they get about 120-130 miles (although I know the shiver was about the same).

To be fair I could have picked up quite a few bikes for that price, bandit/hornet/sv650/FZS - one of the normal commuter bikes - but none of these appealed to me at all, I know they're decent bikes, but they do nothing for me.

The CB jumped out of the ebay pages as something a little different, a little bit rarer, not something you see everyday. And with the added benefit of super cheap insurance and fuel it made sense ;):) a hornet would have been around £500 a year fully comp, the CB400 is £200 a year fully comp.

As I said, I reckon something far, far tastier will be sitting alongside it if I can find myself a place with a garage come the summer, whether that's a Shiver or a Street triple, or a Hypermotard, or god knows what :D

my 600 only does 109 miles to the tank!! what's up with that?:D I do have 109bhp though:p

trouble is you'll only endup wanting something faster, they are cheap if u go tpft aswell

but whatever bike takes your fancy, just be carefull on it with these slippy roads

That was part of the reason too - bear in mind I ride in all weathers, something nice and easy to ride when it's 0 degrees and lashing with rain and pitch black.

Oh and I do have a soft spot for the retro bikes, like the ZRX11/1200, CB1300 etc so this fits the need for one of these, just a little smaller.

My insurers actually wanted to give me money back if I stay TPFT, think it works out less than £150 yearly.

checked all my brakes/pads today, cleaned all the crud off and greased the pad/pins

rear pad is wearing low now, time to order some new ones

-Ordered loads of goodies to fit over the xmas break!

Akrapovic full system (headers and slipon, so will get rid of the cat)
Power Commander 5
HID conversion
Mudslign (to keep the crap off the rear suspension)
Odyssey high performance battery - after 2.5 years the OE battery is struggling with hot starts

I'd been thinking about changing the bike, but after looking around the NEC, there's really nothing that fits my needs better than my current Rallye GS, so I'm spending a bit bit of cash to address the niggles :)

I'm going to be carrying on cleaning out my 01 YZ125's swinging arm and linkage tomorrow, sort the hubs out for the new bearings and seals, and going to take the front end off to re grease the headstock bearings and then Re assemble.

I'm surprised this YZ is still running, when I got it back to my work place I started stripping the bike down and the air filter and air box was horrendous! The air filter had not been cleaned or maintained for so long it basically fell apart in my hand when i removed it.

Glad I now own the bike as i enjoy working on my bikes so I keep them running and in good spec.

Gave it a good clean down and installed some heated grips.
My god they get hot, had them on 100% and had to stop, turn them down and wait till they cooled, burning my hands off...

Sold it :( :( :(

For the first few months of owning the bike I thouhgt I'd made a huge mistake. It always felt like it would bite me in the ass at the most inconvenient moment and frankly scared the crap out of me on a few occasions. Last spring I had a horrible day at work, came home and had an argument with the wife so took the bike out in a fit of anger. I rode it not giving a **** about what might happen. Holy Jesus it was a different bike! From then on I had some of the most rewarding 2 wheel moments of my life.

The trouble with the bike is that it is so capable. In order to push it and make the ride enjoyable I had to do some very silly things that had no place on a public road. I did consider converting it for the track but frankly it's too expensive and ultimately compromised for track work other than very short and twisty circuits.

I fancy a project next. One of my frustrations with this bike is that I couldn't really do much with it on a crap weather day apart from look at it and clean it.

What Grips did you get ? Haven't you got different settings ?

Love mine & they have 5 settings, 3 lights on is perfection.

It's the pride that takes the biggest beating :p

Haha definitely, especially when a whole family come out of their house to ask me if I'm ok. Very nice of them but I'm fine I'd just like to get back to hiding under my helmet now :D
