Wait for the Boxing day sales before buying a NEW GPU ?

Graphics Cards and enthusiasts products don't work shirts and jumpers, lol (i.e. shops clearing old rubbish that nobody wanted to buy in the summer). I would expect a handful of GPU's to be on offer but don't expect much better then what you get on the Today only or the weekly offers unless OCUK get help from AMD, Nvidia or the board partners.

I think he is betting on fact Boxing Day normally has sales on goods and hoping that OCUK is going have some graphics cards on sale. Though lets be honest they have some good deals already.

Has PC/console stuff ever been discounted in Jan sales, anywhere? I'm not sure it has.

Why should companies discount it? Just because it's January? The only items you can buy in January sales are the products shops didn't sell 6 months earlier. If your earlier to a sale you might be able to snag a bargain or two but ultimately retailers aren't going discount goods that are in demand.

For enthusiasts the best time to buy replacement hard ware like video cards is when a new product is about to launch i.e. 390x hence why OCUK have a batch of cheap 290x Lighting editions at rock bottom prices as manufacturers clear out their inventories.

If somewhere wildly overstocked in the run up to Christmas then they may want to dump stock to free up space/capital for different products, so could have a sale. No reason to expect it though!

I wanted my card for the holidays, spent £80 in the steam sale already but havent installed a single game, still play old games?? Madness!! Did this last year too and havent really played any of them, wtf is wrong with me?

January is notorious for slow sales, I'd hazard a guess that any good deals will happen then.

What they said ^.

Everyone knows the sales are on on Boxing Day, right? Wrong. In my opinion the best prices will come when people are spent out and people are back to work, ie, around mid-January.

Boxing day is when people venture out, possibly bored after a day in, with some money in the pocket from Christmas. If I ran a shop I wouldn't offer my best prices immediately after Xmas.
Although not related to GC, but if somethihng was selling well, why would you discount it anyway? Unless old stock, or over stocked I suppose.

I'm always sceptical of the so-called Sales, besides, over recent years the sales are apparently always on 365 days a year

Boxing Day is when all the people get trampled at next or primark sales lol never heard of that happening at a computer shop yet though. But then clothes shopping has always been the more dangerous of the two activities.

Anyone saying that products that are in demand don't go on sale....what utter tosh... just look at the 980 and 970 sections of the site plenty on those on the TWO sale, hell even a 980 on the Christmas calendar today.

I'm sure that there will still be good deals to be had after Christmas.

To be honest I wouldn't expect too much. I would not expect, for example, a load of 970s under £250 nor 290s under £200.

I would not be shocked if we see some decent 780 and 280X deals though simply because the 960 may only be a month away.

You already have a 290x lighting :O

What GPU would you be interested in buying now? If its another 290x Lighting for crossfire then I doubt they are gunna be any cheaper than they are now mate.

If you wanted somthing else then why?
