Still in 2 minds over this, the lack of a proper single player mode, whereby the galaxy is mine to explore, ( rather than the solo mode without other people ) is a key feature that is missing.. still it does look fantastic.. decisions, decisions...

I just had the best time inside a space station. Messing with my controls I hadn't realised I'd unbound Rotational Correction and turned it off somehow - so I enter a station, its rotating around me, I can't land as its way too hard to get it anywhere near the pad, I jump into the settings trying to bind a key and my ship is dangerously close to bouncing around inside the station. :D It was fun!

On the plus side, expect many to come up for sale as people get bored or don't get on with the game :)

Ive got a HOTAS and whilst there's nothing wrong with it, I'd love the extra buttons and stuff on the X52. But of course they are out of stock just about everywhere, presumably because of Elite.

Yeah I was toying with lots of expensive setups but i decided to wait and see how I got on with the game,. As it stands I have just a T16000M which I really like and I may get the CH Pro Throttle after xmas if I get rainforest vouchers etc.
The X55 didn't work out for me sadly.
Keyboard is ok with the stick but not ideal, really I just wish the CH sticks had twist and I'd have a full setup but I do not want peddles under any circumstances.

I want to like this game, but im struggling...
Just started out, no money or cargo space to carry anything and make more than a few 10's credits each run.
No doable missions on the bulletin boards, flown to probbaly 10 different stations hoping to pick up something, but they are all either illegal or way to difficult for a beginner :(

How do i find pirates and go shoot stuff up!
I look at the galaxy map and i cant tell where they are, at the moment in cruising from station to station hoping it will all come together, but unfortunately it aint :(

Any help appreciated!

Yeah was just making sure in case you weren't aware it as adjustable, not trying to teach you to suck eggs :) My X55 didn't work properly sadly so I didn't get a replacement one.

hehe I didn't think you were mate. I have a habit of un-intentionally coming across blunt, it wasn't meant to be so :)

I know the x55's quality control hasn't been the greatest so just wanted to warn him/her to give it a bit of a chance first before sending it back. When they work they are amazing!

While I broke my first x55 in rage when I first got it and up until I broke it the flight stick was weird, none of the springs made any difference and it just stuck. I'm hoping the new one is different.

Have fun, I recently bought the x55 and I LOVE it. Be warned though, the throttle can be quite stiff to begin with but does loosen up. I also found my joystick to be a little grindy at first in certain directions, that only took a couple of hours though to work itself out and now is silky smooth. So don't panic if you get these symptoms at first!

Cheers mate will bear that in mind :D

When in the sidey - I just accepted the quests to transport 2 of item X to station Y

Did those a few times, whilst shooting things that interdicted me and selling exploration data.

The shooting those that interdict you in sidey's with no shields = combat practice and monies!

There are usually standard transport quests for 2~3k.

I have been eyeing this game up the last couple of days. Is it worth the £40 price tag?

I don't always have a lot of time to spend gaming; will I find I get punished by this? i.e., I'll never make any money or be able to progress unless I treat it like a second job?

Are you forced into combat at every turn, or is it conceivable to go long periods without?

Apologies if these questions have been asked, but this is a rather large thread!

You and pick it up and play when you want mate, I haven't been forced into combat for ages as I can usually escape. Don't get me wrong there are times you HAVE to fight but those are generally when someone in a faster ship jumps you and you at least get a chance to avoid it.

You play it as much as you want, I don't really get a sense of competing against other players the way I do in other games, but it's not your typical MMO. It really does cater for old style solo gameplay.

Hey,

I could not agree more with what Halfmad said... the game is well worth £40

It's one of those games, where you can play for as long or as little as you like. Progression is more about the size of ship. So you an take on bigger opponents or bigger trades. Some people are happy hooning around in their Cobras. There are events and story lines going along, but i haven't sussed them out yet
Combat is optional. you can go looking for it. Or you if your trading, you can almost avoid it. Quite literally by running away.

But it can all be lost! If you don't plan. I lost 8000000 credits worth of ship (ASP) at the weekend, because of a couple of silly incidents, and I was 19k short the of insurance money. :( I exited a space station and an NPC Type 7 was doing something in the dock and jammed me against the cattlegrid. I got a trespass fine. Then blown up. I had just spent my money on an upgrade and lost the lot.:mad:

I'm back in a Cobra now. just doing pure trade runs until i get at least my Lakon 6 back. Then I'll see how i can get involved in the story lines.

Got an email saying my bugged cargo hold has been fixed and the credits refunded to me.

Response time wasn't too bad either compared to some other games ive had issues with in the past (looking at you SOE).

With around 500K in the bank I'm thinking its time to move on from my Adder and buy my Cobra but I need a little bit more money for upgrades and safety net plus trading money.

What is the insurance claim cost an on un-upgraded Cobra these days for a Premium beta player?

If I buy one I can trade my way to the upgrades rather than boring myself to death in the Adder with is like a Renault Scenic in space.

Or I could just keep the Adder and use it for boring stuff and buy a viper for some fun......

Open world choices..... total freedom can be annoying sometimes.

Guys I need to get stolen goods into Beckman Terminal, should I just go full speed or try to use silent running to avoid being scanned? I'm lined up with the entry, 17Km out, wondering how to approach it :D

I started off thinking I would keep a Lakon 6 for grinding trade routes and a tricked out cobra for fun.

I ended up never wanting to use the lakon as even on trade routes you just had to ignore wanted pirates and always evade interdiction.

I have ended up with just one ship - an Asp. 2 beam lasers and 3 multi-cannons, interdictor, shield cells (borderline OP) plus about 80t of cargo. I really versatile ship.

Current ship is worth about 10million, insurance is over 400k. But I have not died yet in it yet as it has the speed for a tactical retreat.

Can you have multiple pilots? Wouldn't mind one that is a total dick, shooting up everything that moves, interdicting people and avoiding the Feds while having another that plays by the rules.
