Anyone bought LG Flatron 31MU97 31"

Based on that picture I'd say something is not right with the backlight. I see the dark band on the second quarter from the top of the panel, which I don't have on a similar uniform white. The darker corners is a normal photo/lens characteristic, so probably not present on the actual monitor.
Slightly darker left could be viewing angle difference as it is taken just off centre, so I rather not pass a confident conclusion there.

Sadly the monitor is going back tomorrow - has put me off 4K a bit now. Think I will wait for another 3-6 months and see what else comes on to the market. Pity really as I was starting to get used to the real estate. Lol. Just could not hack the problems especially for the price.

Yo yo, I am said graphics guy :)
I love the 4K monitor, currently running a 690 to power it & a 1920x1200 secondary - but it is only for work, not for gaming.

I love it. Crystal clear, pin sharp - and yeah, the text is small but I like small text - so just zoom if needed ;)

I'd see if it can be exchanged, mine is absolutely stunning. I used to have a Dell 2709W Adobe RGB panel until it died, and this screen blows it out of the water. Never had this much of a wow factor over a single computer component!

Wish you had not said that, as I had decided to go for a refund. Just not sure if I should trust LG again - also warranty at 2 years seems shorter than it should be for a premium product such as this?????

Don't know what to do now. Arrrgh.

How is the quality control on your one? No problems at all I take it. See if you can get a look at mine when it comes back as comparison - being picked up tomorrow.

I completely agree it is pretty disappointing to receive a poor sample, especially considering these screens each gets an individual callibration report.

To mistrust the brand on the one sample is not quite statistically sound, but understandable. I'd ask anderp or another OCUK staff member to judge the monitor, and see what their findings are, and refund or exchange based on that.

Asked LG the question, they came back saying this is a medical approved display and will be used in hospitals for X-rays etc. As such it is a single panel and free from pixel defects as well.

Sounds like a truly top quality panel! :)

They take the warranty of 2yr as unsuitable and will come back to me on whether they can get this addressed and changed to 3yr, they said they do offer 5yr and 10yr warranties for extra cost to businesses, but that is not something we can offer.

I'll post in the thread this quote is pulled from to see if Gibbo has any updates.

Think you are right - will wait and see what ocers say about mine.May yet go for a replacement rather than refund????

Well, with the Acer still not in stock my decision on which monitor to buy may be made for me! Has anyone used one of these LGs for gaming? I don't get much time to spend on games anymore but I'd still like whichever monitor I settle on to be able to to a good job - just in case I get more time in the future.

I have decided to get the monitor replaced - I hope I have made the right decision.

Ronald - I shall blame you if I don't get a good one this time Lol for encouraging me with your comments about yours. :D

Happy New Year everyone - not sure it will be but......

If you get a good one I'm sure you'll be pleased!
If it ain't good one, LG's QC department deserves a good bleeping off to be honest!

I take OCUK agreed your sample was not right?

Hi Ronald,

This is starting to get worrying now - had this from Bailey earlier today "My guys have just come to test the monitor, tested it and it is working perfectly fine so far

Bailey"

I have responded to this and I could not help myself and said that they must be blind - my eyes are not great, hence my worry about being able to read small text on this screen before I purchased. I have advised Bailey of all the problems I found - not to mention that the screen went blank on me about three or four times for a split second, usually not that long after turn on, but it varied a bit.

Overall I said that my 4 year old Dell u2711 did not have any of these issues so.....

I wait and see what they say tomorrow perhaps? Worried now.

It is quite simple, If you are not comfortable, go refund. There are alternatives out now or soon.

Heard back from Bailey - he and the other guys could not see a problem, which I found somewhat weird and surprising. However they have kindly refunded me so that at least solves the problem for now. Think I will wait it out for a while, and next time I will buy in person to check it out first if possible.

Thanks for all your help and opinions guys - much appreciated. Though sadly I now do not have a 4k monitor, but there is always time for one later on.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I would still like to go 4K, but after my very disappointing experience with the LG - still can't believe that overclockers could not see any issues with it. I think maybe they would have seen the issues if they had viewed the monitor in semi darkness a lot better, rather than a bright office with lots of ambient light.

Was now considering the 32" Benq monitor, but have heard these suffer from flicker issues, but not sure. Plus there are no reviews of it? Maybe I should consider the acer 32" when it arrives or maybe wait for the Asus 32" 120Hz IPS screen?

Any ideas Guys ?

Mark
Ps I would even try another LG if someone could convince me that theirs looks ok in dim light - no backlight bleed and colour bleed issues.

Having a few further issues/concerns - I was using the screen this morning and there was a popping sound and part of the middle of the display went blank for a second. Also the monitor has blanked out on a few occasions either at desktop or browsing the net. Seems something is amiss somewhere.

Mark

Hmm. Mine is doing this too.. At first I thought we had a brief power outage, but the popping happens most days now..

I also have a white line of bleed on the far right edge, anyone else had this ?

Did they replace your monitor, did the popping go away ?

I'm pretty sure @tipes got his refunded.

No white line of bleed on mine. I do tend to get a pop/black screen once, a few minutes after turning it on, but I was putting that down to the DP link running pretty close to max, and I was under the impression at those bandwidths it can be sensitive.

Hi Guys - I managed to get mine refunded. Whilst I am glad in some ways that others have found the same problems as I had - I thought I had lost the plot when overclockers tested mine and said they could find no issues. Sorry to hear of your problems guys - very disappointing as this monitor has very good potential, if you can get a good one. I did contact LG over my monitor and had a reply ongoing at the moment - will report back with more info.

Guys - do me a favour and contact ocers customer support with your issues - I a dealing with Bailey. May be there is a bad batch issue here?

Keep m informed guys - out of interest. Would like to try and get these isues addressed for all of us.

FYI here is the message I got from LG in response to e mail:-

I sent a message to LG with my concerns regarding this monitor and received this back:-

Good morning Mark,

I hope you are well.

Thank you for taking the time to contact LG in relation to the 31MU97-B. I am very sorry to hear of the issues you have experiencied with your previous monitor. I have had a look into this for you and I can confirm that this is certainly not a known fault with this model.

I just have to ask; did you speak to anybody here at LG Customer Services in relation to the light bleed you were experiencing? It may have been something that could have been resolved with some troubleshooting.

I do find it concerning that the retailer is putting you off purchasing the LG product. As you know this is a premium product designed and manufactured to the highest possible standard. Besides the monitor in question is one of the most popular models we have.

Unfortunately, with all monitors you will see an element of light bleed this is due to the way the monitors are back lit. It should only be immediately noticable against dark colours or a black screen. There will be settings within the monitor that you can alter to try and lessen the effect of this.

Finally, I can advise you that all of our monitors come with a 2 year warranty. During this time if you were to have any issues with your monitor we would certainly adhere to the waranty agreement and assist you in every way possible.

I hope this clarifies the situation for you Mark.

Let me know what you think Guys.

Thanks for the info Mark. Much appreciated.

This monitor was bought primarily as a Photoshop / webdev monitor so supported framerates isn't such an issue, but while I can get 60Hz at the full 4K which is excellent, I can't get any higher framerate at lower resolutions.

Many other 4K screens max out at 60Hz due to bandwidth limitations with the Displayport, they generally support 75Hz etc at lower resolutions. So Caveat Emptor if any prospective purchasers is thinking of running more than 60hz for gaming at a lower res.

For example I've got an Oculus Rift DK2 which needs the main monitor to run at 75Hz otherwise it suffers from bad stuttering (the Oculus is considered another screen in Extended Mode and needs to run at 75Hz to run properly).

I'll have to take the LG to my office and use it there and bring a 75Hz compatible (the 40" 4K Philips) home.
