#CMDRINFO Kration.

Currently oerating as an explorer/trader originally out of Reshas but now just wandering the galaxy in my Cobra. Once I have enough money I might experiment with trading in a larger ship.

#CMDRINFO Raumarik

Hunkering down in Iota Hydri (empire) in Iben Hub. THREE resource extraction sites within 0.23 Ls of the station which is awesome for miners and bounty hunters :) There are federation systems within a couple of jumps and several anarchy/independent nearby too.

Loving this more and more!

I'm concentrating on bounty hunting so far, managed to get my little eagle to be quite a punchy little fella! Gimble mounted weapons have surprised a few people who've pulled me out of hyperspace :-)

I've completed a few trade runs but nothing spectacular so far. Struggling a bit on finding dead drop transmissions when the missions require them too. Any pointers?

Agreed - that review is well balanced and spot on in my opinion. If I hadn't played through the Beta I'd be pretty frustrated playing the game from scratch now. But put in a bit of effort (and logic to figure out things) then it's worth it.

Just hope new players don't give up through frustration.

The 'long game' does need sorting too but I'm enjoying it where it is now. David Braben referred to having an "empty house and now we need to put in the furniture" or something like that. The house is still fairly unfurnished, but it's enjoyable exploring and thinking what you could do.

What is the insurance claim cost an on un-upgraded Cobra these days for a Premium beta player?

Mine was less than 10K, "pirate start" config with a decent fuel scoop.

I took a 150K Anaconda assassination mission, found the target and nearly got his shields down when my X52 USB cable disconnected and I ended up in a spin. Tore the rift off and could hear the multiple missile alerts.... not a good time to be fumbling around the back of a PC tracing USB cables! My first death....

#CMDRINFO Morgan Grimes - Currently in the Sol system after gaining my permit, thought I'd go have a look, just trying a bit of everything at the moment, but currently liking the bounty hunting :)

You and pick it up and play when you want mate, I haven't been forced into combat for ages as I can usually escape. Don't get me wrong there are times you HAVE to fight but those are generally when someone in a faster ship jumps you and you at least get a chance to avoid it.

You play it as much as you want, I don't really get a sense of competing against other players the way I do in other games, but it's not your typical MMO. It really does cater for old style solo gameplay.

Ah, sounds great!

I do love a bit of space combat, but in similar games in the genre it can get to the point where it sucks all the fun out of playing if you're always stuck in a fight. And besides it is not running away; It is advancing on the enemy from the opposite direction! :o

Hey,

I could not agree more with what Halfmad said... the game is well worth £40

Stelly

Noted. I may have to splash out and make the most of my Christmas time off! (and who the hell was silly enough to make you an Underboss, mate!?)

It's one of those games, where you can play for as long or as little as you like. Progression is more about the size of ship. So you an take on bigger opponents or bigger trades. Some people are happy hooning around in their Cobras. There are events and story lines going along, but i haven't sussed them out yet
Combat is optional. you can go looking for it. Or you if your trading, you can almost avoid it. Quite literally by running away.

But it can all be lost! If you don't plan. I lost 8000000 credits worth of ship (ASP) at the weekend, because of a couple of silly incidents, and I was 19k short the of insurance money.

I take it you're dumped back into a starter ship if you get blown up or sucked into a star? :p

Put any thought into building your own stick/pedals/throttle?
Easier than it sounds (and you clearly already have the tools and abilities needed).

Takes 4 halls sensors (essentially a contact-less variable resistor/potentiometer using a magnet and a sensor that detects the direction of the magnetic field) to do full set and a <£10 Arduino pro micro to make it all work. Just a bit of effort/messing to find a suitable universal joint/ball joint to make the flight sticks pivot, after that it's pretty easy. 2 sensors for the stick, 1 each for pedal and throttle. You can make a multitude of hat switches placed where you like on stick/throttle and probably work out about the same cost/cheaper than buying.

Might not be quite the extreme you want to take it to but something that looked the part and could be slotted into the chair might be quite nice.

Link here to get you started.

The pedals I've not seen made but considering the way the halls sensor works I'd think I've got it licked pretty easily. You'd basically wrap a length of wire around a spindle, mount the magnet on the spindle and each end of the wire to your pedals so stepping on the pedal would pull the wire and rotate the spindle. Just needs a spring or weight to re-centre it when you let the pedal go.

Thanks for taking the time to post that Mercutio, it's appreciated. I'd love to give that a go as a different project at some point. For now, I have some Saitek combat rudder pedals and I engineered some cases for the Warthog to mount on the side pods. I posted these previously but here they are again:

The top plate for the throttle has been made significantly thinner since this picture was taken:

Each case has the Elite emblem on the downward facing slope behind the peripheral:

To give an idea when mounted (they will be attached to an aluminium plate bolted onto 2 poles to raise them from the side pods by a few cms). The pods themselves will sit lower than pictured and this image doesn't really give a good perspective unfortunately:

Edit: A better picture.

Incredible

What's the bit in the middle of the chair for? Looks like it's designed for a stick to sit on?

You are dumped back in a Sidewinder at your starting location. But if you have other ships you didn't trade in, you can fly to them and swap into them.

Guys I need to get stolen goods into Beckman Terminal, should I just go full speed or try to use silent running to avoid being scanned? I'm lined up with the entry, 17Km out, wondering how to approach it :D

The way I did it was sit about 8.5km out, request docking, then throttle up, hit boost, then go silent and whizz in.

As soon as you're in, power up very, very quickly and reverse thrust otherwise you'll smack into the end of the station :D

That's what I did last night.... including smacking into the end of the station. Shields took the brunt but had about 5% hull damage but survived.

It doesn't take much to be honest, just fly in at even half throttle and if you get scanned just boost away to stop it completing! Once you're through the letter box you're fine. I've never bothered with the overly cautious approach, just don't hang about! Haven't been caught yet despite having to run away a few times and being scanned for a split second as passing through the toast rack.

Just traded my reliable Adder for a Viper, I've spent more time hunting bounties and playing courier than trading, hope I don't regret this.

Fuel Scoops, I haven't bothered during beta but now im gearing up my new cobra and fuel costs are no longer as cheap im looking at them.

I know how they work but if I whack one in a Class 2 slot which one should I go for?

Class 1 B grade or class 2 C grade? I have no idea what difference class or grade make to scoops.

At least with weapons you have half a chance of making a half educated choice.

Speaking of which weapons on a Cobra Ive got Gimbled MCs on the class 2s and Fixed Pulses on the class 1s for now, what are peoples favourite configs?

Im carrying 40t of cargo for now as and trading on the main but I want a multirole ship and im slowly building up my Grade of kit while I earn some money, watching my safety net while I do.

RE: fuel scoops - the difference is the rate at which they draw in fuel, that's all. I say that's all but it is well worth it, I just spent over 200k on the 2A scoop on my cobra because I was getting annoyed at having to sit at stars for so long! It brings in a maximum of 75kg/s (assuming it's kg per second... not entirely sure), the difference between this and the 300cr one I had on the viper is like night and day.

I guessed it would be refuel rate but is a class1 B better than a class 2 C? or is it a case of the more expensive it is the better it fills the tank?
