A driver who wrongly parked in a disabled bay in Birmingham sat in his car for more than six hours to stop it being towed away.

never parked in a disable bay myself , i have risked it on double yellows one or twice out side shops ect..i would think twice if this happened tho.

The amount of people who park in disabled bays without a badge really annoys me. So what if he can't pay the fine, simply don't park there anyway. You wouldn't do 120 mph and use the defence 'sorry I can't be banned from driving' and expect to get away with it. ****.

yeah definitely agree and then is there is those who use relatives blue badges to park free , saw a tv prog once woman parked outside Harrods and her disabled mother was at home supping tea 13 miles away and not in the shop as she claimed. she was caught out car was towed :p

LOL. Doesn't he have a job to go to?

Interesting point he makes though. He's fine with paying the fine (:p), but it's the towing and impounding charges he objects to paying.

Also, in the clip the TV woman says "Took a much needed space away from disabled visitors". Were there actually any disabled visitors inconvenienced by his stealing of the space? As it looks like the tow truck caused more chaos than his original offence!

EDIT: Presumably the yellow van got done too? Round here the van drivers really take the mickey with parking on pavements and double yellows - "I've got my hazards on so it's fine."

Sounds like a bit of a bell end, but in fairness to him he has said he was happy to pay the fine, but objected to being towed away. And I'd have to agree with him on that really - it's not like he was blocking the road or anything.

Bell end

Sorry but if you park in a disabled bay the car deserves to be lifted. It clearly wasn't only for a few seconds either. If he had been in the car or two seconds away from it s fine would have been all he got

should have just accepted his tow - although I do have a little sympathy, I drove round a car par (3 different ones to be exact) for 40 mins today, no spaces for me, or the other 50 or so drivers looking (mostly men who had dropped off the wife to start the shopping as I did) but counted over 45 free disabled spaces!!

Glad he stuck to his guns. He admitted he was in the wrong and will pay the fine, but towing the car is completely OTT. Tbh I have a much bigger problem with blue badge holders who seem to park ANYWHERE they please. Must be a slow news day for this to make it to BBC news.

he needs to man up and do this :D

You can't expect much else if you park somewhere you clearly shouldn't but at the same time I think there are FAR too many disabled spaces.

Seem to take up around 1/10th of the car parks near me but never seen more than 1 or 2 of the 20+ disabled slots taken up.

Doesn't bother me personally as I like to park at the back anyway away from other cars in case they bump me as i have no faith of people - especially those in cars.
Same reason I'd never park in a crowded street. I'd rather walk 20 minutes than park near lots of people or other cars.

What ****es me off is people who have a Blue badge just because they are over weight or just a general scrounger!

Im officially disabled but never renewed my badge as was fed up of all the looks I get as a 27 year old hard working lad using it. I have a pelvis still broken in 3 places and damaged 3 discs in my spine. Some days Im fine, some days I cant even get in my car, worse is when I cant get out!
