Roll with it, it's all good fun. One of the nice things about Elite is that there's a balance to confrontations- Put all your pips in Engine and two in System for Max speed and leg it- if the pursuer puts all their pips in Engine then they'll have a limited amount of firepower.

Now I've died a couple of times I'm not so prissy about it. My Cobra's rebuy value is 2900 credits, so when I get interdicted I get stuck in (unless I've got a hold full of Gold!).
 
Oh I know, it's stuff like the power management that I like so much. Your cobra rebuy value is less than my sidewinder lol!
 
PLayed ED with Rift for the first time last night.

Quite amazing. Really is quite amazing. I'd not say it's the best way to go far in the game but I think it is amazing experience once in a while.

Even my missus who is VERY anti me playing games, was utterly mesmerized by the game when using the Rift headset.

Gonna give it a go with some mates tonight or over the christmas break and see how it works out.
 
Just ordered it, while thinking about it got the overclockers newsletter and low and behold it was on the newsletter, bad overclockers tempting me :)

Yes, yes you can. Think of it this way the x55 you get 4 different springs and can run it without the spring... perfect for every occasion ;)

When my dad visited at the weekend I let him try out TrackIR and eyefinity, he was pretty shocked at the sense of scale you get from it. Told him I'm hoping to get a Rift in the new year (my 40th birthday) got a feeling he'll be pre-ordering a consumer edition the instant it's possible :)

Even with eyefinity/trackir you get more of a sense of scale than with one monitor, I was quite shocked how more engaged I feel in the game.
 
If you think you're getting a sense of scale from TrackIR just wait until you play using a rift, it's a significant jump and I cannot wait for the consumer version to arrive, it's going to be an expensive year, thankfully I already have a HOTAS and pedals :)

I'd love to see how much of a spike the likes of Saitek have had in their sales recently :D

I have and although I loved it I'm worried about how long I can play with it on, wasn't the most comfortable experience (mostly due to the heat from wearing it!) :p DK2 was certainly a step up from the DK1 I tried though.
 
Yeah, I'm staff here, and that offer on the X55 Rhino is tempting even me. Damn RJKOneil....damn his tempting offers.

Hmmmm. saving for a 970 though....but it's soooo tempting.
 
Folks when I use tracker to open the side menus it seems a bit fiddly as I have to keep looking at the a funny angle. Any advice how to fine tune this?
 
The hotas x is a great stick for under £40 and makes playing elite a real joy. I can't imagine paying £100 for an x52 gets you something significantly better.
