1080p 120hz possible on HDMI?

hi all,

I have a 970 and a s27a950d monitor. I've always used display port cables to get 120hz at 1080p due to thinking that hdmi cables dont have enough bandwidth. although recently somebody mentioned sometyhingt about the newest 1.4a hdmi cables being able to work on 120hz as they work with 4k...

Is it possible - do i just need a better hdmi cable?

ive managed to add a custom resolution with 120hz which all works on desktop, but when i launch a fullscreen game it goes back to the default 60

check the game isn't set to 60Hz, tbh I didn't think you'd get 120Hz to work at all on HDMI.

ive tried a few games and they all go to 60hz, even on CS where i set a launch option to -freq 120 it still shows 60.

Dual link DVI is what you want for 120Hz.

That monitor has a DL-DVI port so it's possible.

DVI-D is what you need. I recently got a 120Hz screen myself and everything ran at 60Hz via HDMI.

Theres a dp issue on the monitor where u randomly get a black screen and an input error- ill try dual dvi thanks

You may find that the card and a 1.4a hdmi will do this but due to the age/spec of the monitor the hdmi port won't take 120hz through it.

got it working witha dual link dvi-d, in the past i had only used a single link dvi-d - thank you so much x
