amd fx6300 upgrade

Hex core, heck, even quad core + HT do not work properly natively in Windows 7. You need core parking hacks and god knows what else, and even then it won't help you on a FX 8.

Certain benchmarks and games I got 0% improvement (as cores didn't matter). However, in other stuff I got a 10-20% improvement.

Microsoft did initially offer fixes, but they did not work. It was only in Windows 8 that AMD approached Microsoft (plus the Xbone and all that) that the FX CPUs got native support without any patches or hacks.

So yeah, you definitely want to be running 8 or above.

i start downloading the 90 day free trial now and see how i get on with it as i never liked it really but i know i be getting the start menu

with my games will the cpu still max out at 100% like win 7

and thank you for all the info and help

So what are you comparing this to? Which statistics are you retorting?

I have an 8320 and built many an i5 machine. Benchmarks are also tainted due to the fact that most review sites will cherry pick the games they 'test' with or have inconsistent factors such as what clockspeed they run the cpu's at.

I'd run the W10 preview personally.
Then run the Omega Drivers.

Then see where you're at.
Although frankly, I wouldn't jump to an Intel with only a 7950, so your options are limited.

I heard win 10 looks at everything you do on there and stores all your info

i have the omega drivers now my gpu is fine on 1080p i can still max most games out with some details on high

its just my cpu and im hoping win 8.1 will fix that, i may even give linux mint a try

I'm sure not many of us read the T&C's of the software agreements and there are plenty of 'free' applications that try to impose PUP's or log our habits without users knowing. ;)
 
Sorry to derail the thread, but they're all at it. It's up to you to decide whether the data you're providing represents good value for the service/s you're provided with. Facebook is an example of extremely poor value, considering the amount of your personal data you give them the right to monetise.
 
I agree with you Bonjour. Most clients machines I clean up are riddled with software that is a by-product of installing the intended application.

If you head over to the Windows forum here people are beefing up the free AV and MSE as great protection for users where in reality it is the human interaction element and false sense of security that plays the bigger part. :)
 
Certain versions of AMD drivers are not signed and Windows 8 has automatic forced signing. If you don't disable it the driver fails the install and you end up with a bit of a mess.

Just use a search engine and look for disabling forced driver signing Windows 8. It's easy enough to do :)

Currently, the CPU scheduling techniques that are used by Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are not optimized for the AMD Bulldozer module architecture. This architecture is found on AMD FX series, AMD Opteron 4200/4300 Series, and AMD Opteron 6200/6300 Series processors. Therefore, multithreaded workloads may not be optimally distributed on computers that have one of these processors installed in a lightly-threaded environment. This may result in decreased system performance for some applications.
