House vacant for 6 days over winter - heating off?

I keep mine at 12c and all windows shut whilst I'm not there for weeks.

This is because I've taken a radiator off, locked the pipe shut but left the window open - got so cold the other month it leaked all into my kitchen. I do it just enough to stop it freezing as it very rarely drops below 12c.

For the sake of a few quid in heating it might save me a wrecked house.

I don't have central heating
have been in this house for 48 years and its never had a burst or frozen pipe and that was when we had bad winters here.
I have never seen the point of heating hall n stairs etc when your only using them to get from one room to another, waste of money

Heating is always off when I'm not in the place and its always been the same with my parents, never had a burst pipe either other than a outside tap.

No wonder people complain their heating bills are so high. Amazing.

If I'm away for longer than a few days I leave mine on frost protect - comes on if the house drops to 5c. That temp was set by the manufacturer and I've never had a problem.

the problem is people have got to used to having heating all over the house
and now cant live without it.
if your in one room , say watching tv for 2-3hrs, why heat other rooms your not even in, just so when you move from it you don't feel a little cold.
its wasting money.

No idea on the size of your house, but my 3 bed detached costs around 50 quid a month to heat in the winter including water heating. So you diddnt lose
Much

Exactly. And mud huts were once completely fine for our ancestors, who needs an actual house?

I don't consider having warm rooms some sort of extravagant luxury.

99% of central heating systems have a froststat anyway.. i.e if the boiler is armed but the heating is "OFF" it'll switch on anyway under about 5 degrees.

Worrying about noting much!

When i left our house i turned the heating on for a minimal amount just to keep it ticking over, my inept housemate made it back before me, cant figure out how to turn it back :o

leave it on,

I once tried saving money and turning it off when i went on holiday and ended up flooding my downstairs.
