The olde TV licence

They sent me a letter which basically said "ppl lie, so we're gonna keep coming".

But did they keep sending letters and did anyone turn up?

I agree the wording is rubbish and yes they state you are still in line for visits in the confirmation letter but you shouldn't get the bi weekly letters and other stuff

A few of the chaps down my local were having a chat the other night, you know how it is, putting the world to rights etc.

One of the contributors was complaining about today's younger generation in the West not having any fire in their bellies the way we did in our younger days.

I asked him what he meant by that statement. He said well think back to the sixties and seventies and even the fifties. There were protests almost every weekend about one thing or the other. There was CND with Ban the Bomb, Greenham Common, Workers Rights, world poverty, you name it and the young were protesting about it.

This drew more people into the conversation wth many agreeing. A few remarked that although probably an over generalisation today's young people appeared to be more insular and self-obssessed, more concerned with getting material things like the latest iPhone, clothes, other gadgets etc. rather than having a social concience. Many would prefer to play the latest computer game than take to the streets in an effort to change anything.

What do others think - did this group have a point?

Could one of the mods move this post and start as a new thread please? I have no idea how what was supposed to be a new thread has ended up in this thread? The title is today's younger generation.

If you fill out the online form to say you don't require a licence, all what happens is you get threat-o-grams with your name on rather than ones addressed to 'the occupier'.

I let the guy in years ago to see we weren't hooked up to anything live and never heard from them again. From watching various youtube videos it would seem we were lucky we didn't get one of the little hitlers but it goes to show they're not all the same.

I've never had one and filled it in. Got one letter confirming I don't need one and that was it.

Have you made this up after reading something on the Internet?

I filled the form out in April and have not had a single letter or home visit since.

I do begrudge the £12 a month in this on top of Sky etc, the bbc is not worth £12 a month to me

Same here, let it go subscription and stop the harassment of people who don't meet the requirements to need a licence. I pay the licence as I feel what I get is good value for money, however others may not.

If my situation changed and I didn't watch much live TV then I'd object to some randomer searching my house to check I wasn't lying. How do inspectors check you're not watching TV as it's broadcast anyway?
