Hello,

I just bought a Core i7 4790K and an Asus Z97-Pro motherboard; I haven't attempted to build the system yet as on the CPU support list it says that for the i7 4790k that it is "Since BIOS 1008". Does this mean it won't work when I initially turn it on or do I have to update using USB BIOS Flashback before I turn it on?

Thanks in advance :)

you might have to yes

I would try the cpu first though,if it doesn't boot just flash bios through usb

Thanks for the reply - Am I alright to run the system out of a case for the day? I have a new one arriving tomorrow and I want to get the system set up before it arrives.

I was thinking of just using the motherboard box? Also I have a hard drive I need to connect so will that be alright just lying next to it?

I doubt you will need to flash the bios to recognise the 4790k. All Z97 boards came devils canyon compatible from the factory. Unlike older Z87 boards that needed a bios update. But id advise you to update to the most recent bios, as early versions over volt the CPU to very high levels.

Thanks - yeah it did work oob but once I got everything installed I updated BIOS anyway just to be on the safe side

Yep, Asus ones weren't too bad but seen a gigabyte owner on here a few days ago. The board was supplying 1.475v to the CPU at load at stock speed.
