Well just put in an order for an EdTracker to go along with my Hotas-x which should be arriving tomorrow. The EdTracker has a 3 week wait for a pre-built one but I don't mind that as my soldering skills are quite frankly pathetic.

Rares, Mining, Kill vouchers or large bounties in terms of monetary reward are all killed by a good trade route.
When you can jump from 1 system and back and make 1.1k - 1.4k per ton each way the time it takes to do anything else far outweighs the effort.
Large combat payouts generally means an Anaconda and usually means flying to different but close systems to trigger the USS that triggers the npc to say "oh yeah I saw him in x" then you need to kill it.

Mining is monotonous because of how horrible scooping is and you're not guaranteed to get what you need. Rares require a lot of jumps and then that's one way so making sure you've got a good reverse course, not to mention time needed to refuel because stopping at stations takes time and you need a scoop.

6 1/2 mins -7 mins seconds for 250k is what I'm at if I absolutely have all my attention at the game and not tabbed out during travel and stuff. Type-6 112 Cargo space. Cauni <> LTT 15278.
Obviously, you need a good hauler to start raking it in and I did that, Hauler>Adder>Cobra>Type-6. Still monotonous but I value the time spent to make money so I can kit out a decent fighter.

It's just a shame that's all there is to the game, there's no story.
And no, a story isn't one person writing a single paragraph every few days or so and slamming in an instance in a system in some random neck of the woods hundreds of LY away with a capital ship that spawns FOR YOU with fighters flying around.

Once you've tried it all and done it all the veil gets lifted and you see how pretty shallow it gets, it doesn't try to promote play with friends either and doesn't even currently support it.
But I'm still playing it because I want a bit of cash for when all these magical updates and DLC's improve the game.

Each to their own, Elite has never been or will it ever be about anything other than my story in it as far as I am concerned, it's certainly not about making credits as fast or efficiently as possible for me. Anything they want to add story wise is just added flavour in my eyes, even if it's happening light years away from me. I love the fact that I'm obviously not the main protagonist and that my actions have very little impact on anything, it's what appeals.

You're wrong about it not supporting play with friends though, it does, it's just currently a little cumbersome.

Just achieved Trailblazer as Explorer rank, ive visited 850 systems and made 1.2mill from exploration. Id really like to know the acheivement thresholds for the ranks, but im unable to find another solid online. :(

Like Star Citizen it's not a game where you really matter to anyone other than yourself, that's why both of these games drew me in. Unlike so many these days we're one of the masses, rather than the grand hero of some enormous linear plot.

I've done a little bit of everything and as much as I enjoy it, there really isn't much depth.

I really dont find the pursuit of moar wealth for moar upgrades that interesting. If it wasn't for the fact I love astronomy and get a kick out of cruising around and jumping between the gorgeous star systems I'd soon be tired of it.

Just got my biggest bounty of 38k so I went to cash it in straight away.

I'm now flying a Viper and trying to decide what weapons to use. Lasers in the mediums and multi cannons in the smalls atm and it seems to work reasonably well, wouldn't have got the 38k bounty in my Eagle i don't think, but what do others use?

ARGH

Killed 5 anacondas a python and 2 ASPs, made about 500k in bounties, was fighting the last anaconda and I went crashing into him head on in full engine boost, smashed the canopy on my imperial clipper and got the hull down to 3%, hell knows how I made it back to the station - 645k in repairs :(

Thanks for the info and also just ordered one. Put a solder in my hand and I turn into a drunk with DT's (come to think of it, I am a drunk with DT's) :D

I couldn't justify the price of the TrackIR to myself but this I could easily :)

"Than my story"

My point, what story? This is absolutely going to sound insulting but I grew out of making my own stories in my head as make believe many many years ago. I'm not playing that I'm in my own world - I'm in their world that has ongoing conflicts that need to be better represented, proper battles, proper blockades, AT STATIONS. But we can't have that in an instanced galaxy. We can't have a capital ship battle where the deciding victor changes the status of a conflict, we need to have 100 copies of them and an influence % slider that puts all of the results into a final result. Good enough I guess. (Let's not even argue the point you can't kill a cap ship yet)

Players are supposed to make a difference, but on a focused effort between others. But right now as it stand we're pretending while playing.

As for not supporting play with friends, no it doesn't do it properly - don't mistake me for saying support as not literally at all. So much so they're releasing a update specifically for it. All you can do is be in the same place.

That's it.
Be in the same space - let's not talk about the ball ache it takes to share our rewards 50/50 with my brother, it takes longer to buy half the items worth, drop in space and scoop than it does to actually share a kill. I cannot wait until wings are introduced and I hope I can set bounties to be shared 50%, or at least let me sends credits.

Don't even try defend it, I like the game but I'm not that into it to defend how poorly supported every aspect is. Trading requires third party tools if you don't want to end up with wasting all your free time after work with broken in game tools. Mining boils down to Shoot and scoop, no scanning for ores, no upgrades to automate the pain away, no drones, just...shoot and scoop.

Exploring also evolves into a large scanner that is one button press.

Not insulting at all, any more that me telling you to quit playing it if I were you, clearly not your sort of game. My story is evolving quite nicely thanks :)

Agree 100%. To my mind this is Elite/Frontier that plays using an internet connection. Not much else. Looks prettier and that's about it.

Well, I still have hopes and I do enjoy combat.
I come from more a flightsim/combat sim area and yes I've played space sims before but I find they suffer from a lot of "game mechanic abuse" in the way they play. You get to a point where I'm at and no AI is difficult.

The only thing that is a challenge is an Anaconda purely on the fact it takes longer, 30 chaff is well enough to keep using and confuse their turrets and 18 shield cells to pump them up if they go low.

I do miss aerial maneuvers, limited power, mavity, turning angles and speeds defining the outcome. Elite represents this with turning speeds happening at power settings, so those with a keen eye and quick reactions will pay attention to it, same with power pips. You see lots of youtubers just having even power and going max speed.

I've only played against a few people but I'm not out to kill others, only defend myself - but I'm sort of way out in the sticks :P

Buttock-clenching moment while coming in to dock with 3 million in cargo and a stupid fat space cow appears in front of me! Thought I was a goner but these Type 7s are tough, he didn't fare so well...

Good thing the T7 is ludicrously cheap to repair...

The cops are ****wits in this game. I was shooting a wanted in an extraction site and a stupid cop flew through my fire and I end up getting a fine and shot at by the ****wit cop. Grrrrrrrrr.

Every flight sim I've ever played any decent amount of suffer from the exact same problem, this is no different which is why I play in open mode so I have the opportunity to engage with human players which is always far more interesting or irritating depending on the human in question :)

It was of those bad boys, that got me jammed on the cattle grid on the way out and killed for trespassing. :( I lost my Asp as result.

Learn't my lesson though. Still working my way back to it, but will always make sure I have enough cash for insurance & a full load of Palladium :)
