It was of those bad boys, that got me jammed on the cattle grid on the way out and killed for trespassing. :( I lost my Asp as result.

Learn't my lesson though. Still working my way back to it, but will always make sure I have enough cash for insurance & a full load of Palladium :)

Ouch! :(

Yes, Number one rule in Elite - Always have enough to cover insurance.

One of the reasons why I'm not bothering to upgrade my Cobra from the Pirate startup option. Seems to have pretty decent semi-upgraded kit out of the box, all I've added is a fuel scoop. Insurance? 2900 credits....

Not fearing the financial implications of death means I've had a pop at pretty much everything- I've really only had trouble with Anacondas so far. Having said that, only died twice!

I've tried to play it again but decided to leave it until its a finished product and uninstalled it.

It just lacks so much content, it's thread bare.

The first time i pulled up to a station and landed it was a wow moment. Then you realise that every single station in every single star system is practically the same.

Then we come to trading, buy at one station do some basic jump to an identical station, repeat and rinse.

Mining is extremely basic and unrewarding. Combat also lacks excitement.

Then we go on to multiplayer, this game cries out for guilds/organisations etc.. ability to own star systems and lose them under combat. What do we get? Practically nothing.

Graphics wise its ok nothing special. Ships looks poor quality in general.

The truth is its vastly overhyped as its basic, repetitive and missing most features you would expect. It maybe like the original but we are long past those days, we should be expecting much more.

Also the create your own story thing is bull, there is nothing to create as there is nothing to do.

I spent hours yesterday scanning trade routes trying to find the best profit margin but wasn't able to improve on the one I was using (bidirectional 1300cr >< 1100cr profit trading performance enhancers & palladium.) The best commodity profit I found was 1500cr but nothing worth trading on return.

Has anyone found a profit margin of more than 1500cr? I'm not asking for a route but I feel like I'm wasting my time looking for something that doesn't exist.

Needed to pop to the toilet earlier so hit escape to go to the pause menu, came back a couple of minutes later to find my ship being shot to ****, managed to escape with 7% hull. Lesson learnt, log out next time...

Yes, there is no such thing as pause in Elite.

Agree with everything you have said but I do envy people that can "use their imagination" to turn this game into something it is a long way away from :o

Well just put in an order for an EdTracker to go along with my Hotas-x which should be arriving tomorrow. The EdTracker has a 3 week wait for a pre-built one but I don't mind that as my soldering skills are quite frankly pathetic.

Reading this post has just saved me a hundred quid. I was about to pull the trigger on a TrackIR but have now opted for an edTracker instead. Cheers.

Just how much "extra" do people think they're getting out of a HOTAS system on this game?

I've been tempted a few times by the Saitek Pro Flight X55 Rhino, what are we thinking guys?

It adds massively to the game for me. It does feel like your actually flying the ship rather than simply a sim on the computer.

If you're nervous of spending that much I've got the ThrustMaster HOTAS X which can be got for about £40. Combine that with Voice Attack software and it's superb for immersion. I was using a FLY 5 standard stick before which was OK, but a HOTAS set-up is miles better.

What form of control are you usng at the moment - a standard stick, pad, keybord/mouse?

Pad and keyboard at the minute, I'm enjoying the game so much I can see me investing 150 in the Saitek.

I actually spent boxing day driving around Plymouth looking for the TM Hotas X to get me by until I had some spare pennies! How do you find the quality?

Ordered the X52 Pro Hotas this morning looking forward to using it with Elite Dangerous.

Looks like OcUk sold out of all of them they had in stock.

Cheers all

Safe to say I'll never be playing this game in open mode again until there is a docking queue.

Sat waiting 15 minutes to dock on a small platform with a 100 credit bounty waiting to dock and pay it off. I don't like the idea of jumping between online and offline play, I'd rather enjoy the extra risk of online.

Then some idiot in a sidewinder decided he wanted to get the 100 credits from killing me, I easily escaped but can't pay off the bounty as I can't get in the station and also can't defend myself without being flattened by security.

All because one auto cannon round hit a guy that flew in front of me in combat. Really enjoying the game but there are a few small things that are absolutely ruining the immersion.

I was using mouse and keyboard then bought the tm hotas x the game plays far better now. Ive abused the crap out of mine and it still feels like new great stick for the money.

It's just a shame that's all there is to the game, there's no story. And no, a story isn't one person writing a single paragraph every few days or so and slamming in an instance in a system in some random neck of the woods hundreds of LY away with a capital ship that spawns FOR YOU with fighters flying around.

Once you've tried it all and done it all the veil gets lifted and you see how pretty shallow it gets, it doesn't try to promote play with friends either and doesn't even currently support it.
But I'm still playing it because I want a bit of cash for when all these magical updates and DLC's improve the game.

That's the beauty of it. It went away from convention, being a game that had only 1 goal. To become the Elite.

Its a sandbox game, where you pursue your own future, goals, direction in a virtual life in space. The story is what you write and play, you are your own story.

If I want to be a hero, or have goals, then I play WoW or some other themepark, or RTS etc. If I want free choice, with no direction then I play this. This is what grabbed me first time around with the original Elite.

Just log out and swap when needed for now, a queue is definitely needed though. I agree about the instant wanted status though, it really needs to be a fine first, only turning into a bounty if you fail to pay before 24 hours are up or if you make the same offense two or three times.

Wasn't paying attention and forgot to request docking. Was 1 second away from getting back out the door!

750k worth of cargo down the ******, arg!

Asthe previous poster has said the stick seems really robust. My only criticism is that it could do with a few more hats/switches when compared to more expensive sticks - though Voice Attack addresses that. You can also use one key as a 'shift' which effectively doubles the number available, though I've not set that up.
