My son's desktop is running with an AMD HD4890 1GB.

Although elderly it does everything he needs until recently.

He plays a range of games on a single 24" monitor running at 1920x1080.

The only problem is that he has started encountering games that only run on DX11 which the card does not support.

I've completely lost track of the graphics card market so unsure what would be the best bang for buck.

Looking for something in range £100 to £150.

Don't mind whether it nvidea or amd.

What would you recommend either ne or used.

Cheers,

Nigel

You missed a £70 GTX670 on the MM the otherday. Depending on the rest of the spec your top end budget will get your around 290 type cards, low end will get you 680/280x type cards.

Whether it's really worth spending the extra on the more powerful card depends on rest of spec ;) :D
Wouldn't bother going brand new with the budget, isn't really anything the shouts good value tbh.

Away with relatives at the moment so don't have exact specs. I've looked through order history to find some.

Mobo - ASUS M5A97
RAM - 8GB 1600 MHz
CPU - AMD FX6300 Black Edition
Case - a generic mini tower
CPU - can't remember - think it is a decent make around the 500W mark

Nothing is overclocked.

Cheers,

Nigel

just got 2 of the cheaper 7950 for a friend and they crush my r9-290
290 Gfx score 34637
2x7950 Gfx score 46257

and they cost less, you can go wrong. sell the codes and there like £70 a Each :D

I'm guessing that the first one is essentially the same as the second but with a factory guaranteed overclock.

Couple of questions

1 - would I see much difference between the two at 1920x1080?

2 - is the cooler of one substantially louder than the other?

Cheers,

Nigel

The 2nd one (with the twin frozr III cooler) is vastly superior. It will be much cooler and much quieter.

Frozer coolers had a lot of problems in 7950 range. But yes that one is better card uses 6and8 pin pcie power other uses 6and6
