Hi all,

trying to put together a pc for my friend on a tightish budget as he needs a monitor and Windows.

He's a fussy bugger and definitely wants Intel (and Nvidia but that's another problem), but I was wondering what other options below the i5 4690(k) would be good and bring the cost down by £40-50 to put elsewhere and not reduce performance horridly and be upgradeable going forward?

Intel Core i5-4430 3.00GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
Intel Core i5-4440 3.10GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

those for example are coming in at 140ish are they any good and what would be a decent low cost mobo to go with them?

also the 970gtx is looking a bit out of reach, is there a good alternative for games like BF4? it has to be Nvidia (again fussy!)

thank you in advance :)

thanks for the replies

what I have in the basket already is below so if you are adding £200 for the cpu and mobo the budget is about £200 for the GPU.... he might push for the 970 but in a question, would the 960 offer any performance over the 760?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Antec TruePower Classic 550w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £54.95
1 x SK Hynix 128GB SSD SH910A SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (HFS128G32MNB-2201A) £44.99

An immediate £15 saved and this SSD seems to have better performance numbers.

that's a nice little package there Stulid thank you. Would the RAM Speed drop compared to the one I've picked make much difference?

The chipset supports only upto 1600Mhz anyway.

In fact I think the B85 and H97 are also limited upto that speed.
