Hello fellas,

I would like to get into pc gaming as it seems to be the predator of gaming. All I know is starting up/building a pc is expensive yet it becomes cheaper in the long run.

I have been scoping Youtube for a few days just trying to learn a bit of the PC lingo and saw this build and it seemed ok.

competitor prices shown.

This is what I have my eyes set on.

Here comes the complete newbie questions.

If I was to buy all those parts in that picture, what else would I need to buy to boot it up and start gaming straight away?
(keyboards, mice ect)

I'd like my budget to be kept really low with the idea of being able to upgrade in the future as I just want to get a gaming pc to start with, slowly turn it into a beast once I'm confident with it all.

Sorry if this was terribly laid out I was kinda nervous to post but here goes, thanks again for looking at my thread and dealing with my newbiness :)

Hi Joshua,

Welcome to the forum.

You'll need an operating system, mouse, monitor/TV, headset/speakers, and a screwdriver or two. The case, motherboard and PSU will bring all the cables needed. The processor will bring a cooler.

Think about your upgrade plan/route carefully. It's not going to be easy/beneficial to upgrade that build without replacing parts entirely, apart from video card and adding an SSD. However, as far as bang for buck goes, it's pretty good.

Thanks for replying! I see what your saying.

Do you have any idea on which of those parts you mentioned would be able fit for me?

What you have listed isnt really that upgradeable.

AMD cpus are considered the 2nd best in a 2 player market.
So going that route makes your Motherboard limited to AMD AM3 upgrades. I don't even know if they even still use AM3+ socket.

OS (operating system) You want windows 8.1 or Windows 7 - Whatever is cheapest.
Mouse. All are universal 99% USB connectors get a multi-button one for games.
Monitor 22" or 24" TFT can be had for <£100.
Headset anything will do - If you plan to speak get one with a boom mic on.

Things that you are going to keep over multiple builds like KB/Mouse/Monitor/Case/Hard disk/SSD/RAM(maybe?) are worth spending extra pennies on imo.

You deffo want an SSD hard drive in a modern pc 128gb or 256gb is affordable and the difference is so noticeable+ when you upgrade that can be used again too.

imo you have done the right thing coming on here, so many people i know buy a pile of junk from the big high street stores only to find its useless for gaming.
dont worry how silly you feel with some questions as there are plenty here to steer you in the right direction and save you plenty of time, money and frustration.

Wow thanks for all the response, I didn't expect this much and very informal.

Yes, that's what I'd like mainly. A starter gaming PC with a decent ability to be upgraded but at the same time have some power at the start to get me going as I do plan to drop some cash on it in the future as I do like my toys.

I'll be building the PC myself which from what I've seen on youtube isn't that hard if you use your brain :)

If I'm looking at prebuilt systems would this one be any good?

I was told that the OS I'd be good with is the Microsoft Windows 8.1 64 Bit?

If anyone is willing to make me a system for 400-600 with some power and upgradability? I'd be over the moon!

Thanks again!

Thanks again!

Go with Intel from the start with a good budget CPU, with room for an upgrade to a higher power CPU later. If you go AMD for the CPU you will regret it later and hamstring potential performance upgrades.

For GPU's, AMD are still great (though lagging behind Nvidia a little now), but for CPU's they really do play second fiddle to Intel.

Can someone explain the AMD & Intel thing? Is it like xbox versus ps4? Or is one brand generally worse than the other as I haven't read into im either much.

My budget is 400-600 (system only)

Closest I could get to your budget and has everything you need including an SSD and 1TB HDD.

It's obviously a difference in performance... just do some basic research and check reviews/benchmarks before you buy.

Wow thank you very much for building all that.

I think that's what I'm going to do, is build something with a little power and ability to upgrade and then if I get a bit more hungry for a better spec I'll remodel one there and then. I just didn't want to spend £1000 straight up and maybe not enjoy it as much as I thought.

Aye thats more powerful than the 270x I spec'd. Josh put that in your basket instead of that 270x, more power and cheaper win=win. :D

Ok, I'm so excited to finally jump in to the PC gaming world.

I'm looking to put some serious hours in on the PC once I have it, is there any warnings I should know about maybe running it for too long?

(noob question here) Do I need a good graphics card or are most of the ones you guys suggesting to run a video/movie in 1080p?

also what about sound cards.. I'd like sound yet I don't know if I'd need a 5.1 or higher
