Uber Taxi

Use them all the time, probably 10 or so journeys a month. In London mainly but also in HK, NYC and UAE. About time the industry got a shake up, especially in London.

I just struggle to get that excited about a company growing based on ignoring laws of the countries they operate in.

It's semantics and unclear to the letter laws that allow them.
I'm all for it though, a monopoly shouldn't be allowed and more options given, essentially boiling down to the end users experience.

Better service?
Cheaper?
Faster?
Easier?
Reliable?
Technologically linked?

You have Deal.

Uber drivers maybe terrorists and hence by using them you are supporting ISIS.

No thank you.

Not sure if serious....

Well, that's how the government tries to stop everything these days.

Mate selling duty free fags he brought back from holiday? You are funding terrorism.
Downloading movie shows for free? You are funding terrorism.
Buying copied dvds down the pub from achmed the terrorist? You are funding terrorism.

etc.etc

The company itself seems to be run by some downright nasty people as well, so I'm not queuing up to give them money.
Serious question, but what are you talking about? I haven't heard anything bad specifically about the company, but then again I've not been looking. Can't be worse than Addison Lee and their CEOs views?

Your running costs do tend to go down when you don't have any of your own vehicles to maintain or insure, or pesky licenses to pay for.
What licences? The drivers all have their private hire licences, right, so what's the difference?

Yea I use them all the time both in London and LA. Apparently I used one to get home from xmas party, I discovered the receipt the next day waking up ... still drunk :p

Much better than black cabs. Newer, more comfortable cars, cheaper, better service. Used them a few months ago to get from Central London to Heathrow at half the price of a black cab. Would use them again without hesitation.

It's about time somebody shook up the taxi market, traditional taxi's are overpriced and fairly horrible to use.

They are licensed as private hire as far as I know. I think the issue as far as the UK goes is that they charge based on time / distance, whereas private hire quotes the price up front. Only actual taxis can use a meter to charge in this way. I don't think you'll ever see Uber referring to their service as a taxi service.

Of course they are - they are licensed private hire drivers just like any other minicab firm in the UK is. It is illegal to carry passengers otherwise.

yes they are, infact we recently registered 2 cars with them

just another source of work for us really. can log on if and when we're quiet from other stuff, we're not tied in and don't pay a weekly settle like we would to a traditional radio base.

huge firm that are growing exponentially because the taxi and private hire market is mostly suck in the 80s still

I think the source of the black cab drivers frustration is the need for them to spend years learning the knowledge where these Uber guys use sat navs etc.

Forgot about these! App installed, as I'm in central London on occasion, and it will be cheaper and probably more convenient than a black cab.
Even better with the free £10 credit.

I'm really impressed. I have used it 15 or so times in prague over the last few days and it's half the cost of taxis.
So much so I don't even use my own car as it's easier than finding parking.

Christmas day, Wimbledon to Clapham Junction, £7 each way.

Kings Cross to Tooting, £20 at midnight last night.

LOVE Uber.
