Used Titan a good buy?

Bearing in mind my requirements for the next couple of years (below) is a used Titan still a good buy for the next 18 months - 2 years usage? And what is the going rate?

I have pretty much everything else sorted I'm just trying to come up with a GPU, I was going to just stick with a 750 ti and lowish settings for the next year or so and see where I am then, but looking at used prices I'm getting itchy trigger finger syndrome!

Single GPU
Single monitor 1920x1080-1200 resolution only
Low-moderate noise/heat output

The Titan is a good card but its real benefits are more for high res SLI, not just because of 6GB of V-Ram but also because its not as cut down as its other GK110 siblings, it seems to have more raw power.

For 1080P its a bit waisted, at that res a 780 does the job nearly as well, and the 970 which at that res is not only more effisient but also perhaps a little better.

So it depends on price given that its used, if its anything more than £200 i think the extra £60 for a new 970 is the better way to go.

Yes, I did have my eye on that Asus 970 mini ( small ITX rig) but the Gigabyte version doesn't seem very highly rated.

It's a quandary because I have two different cases I could use, I would prefer to use the smaller one but that would limit me to small cards (like the Asus) but I may reconsider for something as sexy as a Titan :D

Actually the more I think about it the more my head says stick with the 750 Ti and see how things develop, that potential 960 Ti would be a nice card, especially if they do a mini version of it.

I don't think i've seen a used Titan sell for as little as a new 970, because of that go for the faster 970.
I think the other day some guy traded his Titan in for £375.

Nope, even when titans first came out they wasnt a good buy for gamers. Only time they seemed anygood is when 4k surfaced but 4k isnt really even there for proper gaming. Even used titans cost too much IMO you can get a faster card for less than a used titan so get faster and newer tech for less :D

@4K 4 Titans run smoother than both 4 x 980s or 4 x 290Xs.

There is a bit more going on with the Titans than just 6gb of VRAM.:)

OP don't buy anything yet as I think spring will bring big changes in the graphics card market with some interesting new cards.

i thought 4 titans didn't really work? Only three? Also there isn't enough grunt in the titans to play newer games at 4k well the titans OP is referring to.

4 Titans work very well in a lot of games and very smooth too. As to grunt they are fine on Crysis 3 @4K.:)

I would not recommend the OP going down that route of getting a Titan as come spring I think the GPU landscape will change dramatically with new releases.

No, definitely not for your requirements at all. Either grab a 980 or wait a month or so to see what happens. Apparently there are a few nice bits at CES this year.

Cool, will hang on.

The only problem is like someone mentioned on another thread, there always seems to be something around the corner to "hang on for" so at some point you have to make a decision.

It was £357 traded in at a popular high street tech/media exchange centre that you can check prices for online. You can get £295 cash at the same place so anyone selling for less has not done their research......

Swapped my Titan for a voucher and bought a 980 with a game code for £390 delivered (Super Jet Stream from here). Only ever had the single Titan so did not really ever benefit from the memory size and don't miss it currently in all games I play at 1080p. Had a thread showing heaven results for the two cards.....lots of people saying it was silly to buy the Titan new 21 months ago. Personally I don't regret it. I bough the best card available at the time without the difficulty of SLI and got a lot of use out of the card before recouping a lot of its value nearly two years down the line.

Would I buy a used Titan now? Not unless I was running CUDA or similar or was looking to 3 or 4 way SLI cards with existing cards in a computer.

For gaming their are better more efficient alternatives that are cheaper or come in at around the same cost.

Now's not the time to buy if you want hardware that will last, I'm not saying current stuff won't last, what I mean is that we are meant to be on the verge of getting hardware that's undergone bigger changes than we normally see when compared to the usual tweaks and updates we get on a yearly basis. Sort of like it's a leap year.
