All,

To not take over the other recent topic relating to hotels in Berlin, I have created this separate one.

My girlfriend and I are going to Berlin at the end of January for an extended weekend. We are staying next to the river, approx 10 mins walk from Berlin Hbf.

Can anyone recommend any good eateries and bars etc for food and drink throughout our stay?

Joseph-Roth-Diele, small place that lots of local workers go to eat traditional German food. Very authentic and quite cosy.

Cafe am neuen see, outdoor seating in the tiergarten. Good italian food and a very nice beer, I may or may not have stolen a beer glass from here :p It's a nice location to chill and have a mooch about, we went in summer though.

Burger AMT and Burgermeister, two very popular takeaway burger joints. Best burgers I've had, the latter is a converted public toilet under a tube station!

Lemongrass - Great thai restaurant, been twice and both times very busy. Advise booking, it's not central though. In a suburb.

Fassbender & Rauch - famous chocolate shop so will no doubt go down well with the gf! They have a restaurant upstairs which is pretty good, every meal has a small bit of chocolate incorporated somehow. Good place to get gifts to bring back too.

I'd recommend doing the fat tire bike tour. It's a relaxed tour with informative enthusiastic guides on comfy bikes, Berlin is very flat so very little effort involved. The tour I went on had a beer garden stop off for lunch in the tiergarten.

Cycling in general is a brilliant way to get around. My cousin lives there so when we went to visit for a few days we hired some old school single speeds from a cool cycle shop. Definitely doing this again next time I visit, probably best suited to summer though.

Thanks for the info Shimmy! Just bumping this thread as it's not long until I go now, and I realised I have no idea how much anything is in Berlin. Some people say it's cheap as chips, but it is the Euro, and it is a big city.. so? What would you expect to pay for a meal out, beers, cocktails etc? :)

Also if anyone knows anywhere particularly special to go for an anniversary dinner.. that would be great :)

Also interested in this, Just booked a weekend in Berlin with my Girlfriend at the end of Feb, staying nearish to the Zoo.
