Is it a bad idea to be looking at 10 year old 100000+ miles CLS500's?

ive gone from a 60 mile a day job to virtually not needing a car to get to work. so now getting rid of my 2.0 Mitsubishi lancer diesel and now looking for something fun for the weekend.

the cls is about the only car i have said to myself i really want one of those when they drive past. that and a 350z but the 2 seats is a no go.

so would it be silly to spend what looks like between 6 and 10k on one of these? (part of me is hoping you say no)

Do you actually mean the CLS - because a 4 door automatic saloon is a great daily car but not a particularly great weekend fun car.

The CLS is designed to be a comfortable wafting machine isn't it? The CLS500 in particular being one for rich people who cared little for fuel costs vs comfort and power.

It's not really the sort of thing that pops into my head as a fun weekend car. Mercedes answer to that question is in the SLK or SL really I'd have thought, or at least things with proper AMG badges on.

I really mean the CLS. while i am looking for a car mainly to be used at the weekends. im not really looking for your typical weekend car that seems to be a 2 seater convertible.

CLS no, SLS yes

aye. maybe get a SLS next time round

again. 2 seater convertibles isn't what im looking for. looking for something comfortable with toys that goes like the clappers.

If I was looking at old mercs in this price range I'd wait for a black or red (did they come in red from factory?) 560 SEC

Very reliable engine and gearbox, proven now old electronics, buy one if you know a good genuine specialist and are methodical yourself and will be able to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

Don't buy one if you are not, they are very complicated and are now old.

Indeed you could get a Red 560SEC although tbh in the flesh the colour didn't suit it.

Lovely cars from the era where MB were kings.

I worked for an MB dealer when the SEC was current. :)
