I have had nothing but pleasant experiences meeting people in this game. I generally only play in open (unless there are teething problems etc).

I have only been pirated once and even then he gave me a chance and didn't kill me once he got his cargo.

Obviously there are going to be one or two idiots, but I feel I can safely say that in this community, it is a bare minimum.

Sounds promising might have to pop on at some point if this is the case.

Yeah, I really enjoy the simple little human interactions that are possible with open play. I was leaving a station the other day as a CMDR was about to come in to dock and a simple flash of my lights to let him through first was appreciated and added greatly to the immersion. My python was interdicted by an Eagle last night and he never even fired a shot as I turned to engage him, just boosted away. I guess he though I was a NPC but as soon as he realised I was a human pilot...nope. :D

Go for it. I'm sure you'll be fine.

In unrelated news, my Cobra is coming along nicely, aided by my new career of smuggling black boxes and prototype tech rather than just doing delivery missions. Still enjoying my exploration rôle too.

Next thing on the shopping list is milspec hull alloy, and then a detailed surface scanner.

They're going to take a while though.

Are stolen Slaves different to bought slaves.

I got 4t of slaves from destroying a wanted npc, took out a mission for slaves. But I can not give the cargo.

I'm loving the mental image of someone claiming the moral high-ground by refusing to blacken the good name of the slave industry by purchasing stolen slaves! :p

Kind of this.

Always play in open and have had the odd conversation whilst waiting to dock. Got pulled out of warp in my loaded Eagle and after a fairly strange thirty seconds of scanning and chest beating have made a new Steam friend. It gets better and better.

Got through bit more training earlier, and then my first actual mission :)

Find it all quite relaxing somehow

But if I continue liking it I will likely upgrade from my speed link black widow.

Making some good progress now. I have a hauler with 18 cargo and 18 Jump Range unladen I could add another 2 cargo if wanted but tbh rather have my shields as you never know. Now trading has become fairly easy going to use this ship to make funds for a bit before deciding what to do next
How have you achieved this? I've only got 14 capacity on mine and that's having sacrificed the shields!

God, I'm so tired - this game is killing my life lol, since 12 noon until 5 mins ago i've sat here flying spaceships, firing lasers and listening to 80s rock.. my lyfe...

Did some more hauling to better kit out my Python, it's now worth about 85M, bought an A7 power distribution and bigger reactor, then kitted it out with 5x fixed beam lasers (3 large, 2 medium) cripes it puts some heat into the target. Made over 1M in bounty hunting tonight, the Python totally rocks - think it's going to be my main ship for a long time,

I'm liking the game despite the learning cliff and only a limited amount of flight time under my belt. The first day was a bit of a downer as my first flight as a starry-eyed noob got me interdicted and promptly one-shotted by an NPC Elite Anaconda called Colossus, and as soon as I relaunched got capped by some CMDR in an Eagle within seconds of leaving the fire-free zone around the station.

Admittedly it's got a bit easier since the CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and pedals landed - the pedals make a fixed weapon loadout much easier to aim and makes gimped overly expensive gimbals a bit pointless.

Currently trying my hand at a bit of exploration in an pimped out Adder with mostly Class As and a detailed surface scanner, will no doubt be swapping it for a Cobra after I get back from the frontiers.

Been killing npc pirates tonight for the first time - in a viper. Jumped in with a 7 kill contract. Managed to become wanted with accidental friendly fire. Dodged three lots of Feds and npc clean guys trying to kill me. Paid off the fine. took on another 3 pirate kill misson in the same star system as well. Killed those three, got wanted yet again for more accidental ff. paid off the fine again. Picked up some dropped cargo, finished the original 7 kill contract with 30 mins to spare. Claimed the bounties, got paid for the 2 missions, sold off the goods on the black market, repaired all the damage and made around 100k profit. Quite pleased with my first foray into combat.

^ When I've had my fun with my bit of smuggling, I must try combat again.

I have one kill under my belt, and about three or four failed attempts.

I think my Cobra has one beam laser, one multicannon and one "large calibre cannon".

If I can just find a couple of easy targets to start me off I should be OK...

Folks... to find pirates, is the only way to roam around until you come across an unidentified object in supercruise? Is there a quicker way?

Nav points in anarchy systems are usually a good bet.

Also if you're looking for Unidentified Signal Sources then you're best bet is just to go absolute minimum speed in super cruise (should be 30km/sec), that way when they spawn you can just target them and drop out of super cruise immediately rather than wasting time waiting until you decelerate enough to safely drop out. Basically let them come to you rather than you going to them!

When you are scanning targets a good indication of a pirate:
-most certainly have a cargo scanner under 'sub targets' (left hand panel)
-may have a one word commander name
-get sarcastic comms chatter
