Another weird Motors post!

This came up with a mate of mine in the pub the other night. Im considering spending about 10% of the value of my home on a car, which I thought was excessive. He said not really "My company car is worth 50% of my home value". OUCH! He does point out he spends about 6 hours 5 days a week in the car!

This is just to see how "normal" or mad I might be really :p

Unless you live up north where houses are 80-100k maybe, otherwise he's talking rubbish.

It all depends where you live. In the north you get a nice house for £300k so its quite easy to have a car worth 10% or more than the value of your home.

My wife's car will be around 10% of our house and my one 7.5% (when I buy it)

Hes not as I know what he drives and been in his house! (Its actually in Gloucestershire)!
I think he paid 120k for the house about 8 years ago and has a new 3.0V6 TDI Range Rover (real one not sport)
So prob about 50%. Your comment would also be true for Wales, the Mrs sold her 3 bed with drive and garage for 60k 2 years ago ;-)

I've heard that 10% figure too, think it was my Dad who said it and I think it applies to new or nearly new cars if its to make any sense.

So for me its 12% of the total value of my house. I spend about 12 hours in my car a week and most of my time at home asleep!

about 8% ish?

I honestly have no idea how much my house is worth now. just going off what I paid for it.

edit* that said, I have no idea what my car is worth these days either.

I dont think it has any real bearing as my next door neighbour drives a P reg Punto that is probably worth less than an oil change for my car.

I know what you mean, but I was expecting to find a fair few petrol heads in here! Mates Dad is a Surgeon and drive a P reg Passat estate!

In my current house my expensive car (Impreza) is worth about 5.7% but when i move shortly to the new house im building it'll be about 2.4%.

For my rubbish commuter car (Yaris) is just under 1.1% but again when i move it'll be just under 0.5%

I have no plans to change my cars when i move to a house worth 2.5-3x more and even if i did i'd only replace it with one of the same value.

I often find it funny that the people who are really into cars tend to spend less on their cars than the people who couldn't care less.

thats just the way it is though.

Housey posted this thread yesterday.

I think it goes without saying that Kaley Cuoco fails to extract the maximum potential of a track focussed Porsche GT RS on the streets of Los Angeles. but she has the money for one, and I don't. so that's that.
